“A little bit of home”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 July 2008

We just got back from Cusco and stayed multiple nights at the Casa Elena. The hotel was very nice and comfortable. The best thing about the hotel was Elena and her husband Eve. Over and over they went above and beyond. It felt you you had your mom with you helping when you needed it, from getting clothes washed, recommendations on where to go for food or shopping we were handled with gentle loving care.

After heading our for one trek we had a couple people who were sick and stayed an extra day at the hotel, later Eve brought them out to meet the group on the trail. We also took a four day hike with Eve to Choquequairo, which was incredibly difficult and beautiful but Eve was a great guide, the food and tent sites were excellent. I would highly recommend these guys for a close comfortable hotel but more importantly for a little bit of Mom away from home. It can do wonders for you when you are lost or need a little extra comfort. Thank you Elena and Eve.

Was in a convenient location, clean and neat, though not modern, with good hot water and pressure.

We opted to rent a space heater for the extra fee because it was too cold otherwise (common for Cuzco, I think that time of year). An affordable option, but once you add in the cost of the heater, you may as well just pay for a nicer place that includes it.

The staff was nice-- limited English ability, but a good opportunity to practice your Spanish. I was a little surprised when one of them tried to sell me trinkets during my stay.

Also, the owner's brother, who helps to manage the property and speaks English, is well-intentioned but unfortunately totally incompetent. Based on my experience, I would not recommend using his travel services/assistance, even if you are a guest there.

Excellent location, from the main square head to San Blass on the stoned street behind the Cathedral. Owners are helpful and very nice people. Being between Cusco Square and San Blass Square is an experience. A very good value. Not recommended for party heads.
