Fantastic location - great staff!

Review of Qosqo Hostal
5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 31 July 2013
We had such a nice stay here. The location could not be better, just off the main square. Some of the rooms are a little noisy but are clean and comfortable. There is plenty of hot water for showers, the breakfast is buffet-style and plentiful. However, the best bit is the staff. They could not have been more friendly, helpful or accommodating. The lady who seems to be on duty during the day was amazing. Moved us to a bigger, quieter room completely unbidden. I highly recommend this lovely hotel.

Room Tip: The rooms at the back of the hotel overlook a sports centre so try and avoid these if you can.

The location is the best feature, steps away from the main square and also ave del sol. The staff were very lovely and accommodating, a decent serve yourself continental breakfast as well.

The first night I arrived late, and the room was a bit rough, they moved me though and the second room was nice. Lots of hot water (a concern in Peru so it was nice)

a great budget stay, and a great location.

This is our "go-to" hotel/hostal when traveling to Cusco, this was our 4th trip in 5years and once again the folks at Qosqo met our expectations with a pleasant 5 day stay. They picked us up at the airport (arrange ahead of time), were prepared when we checked-in, the rooms clean, the staff friendly. Now-keep in mind, this is not the JW Marriott; but the location cannot be beat and the price/value is well worth it. Other reviewers noted a water issue, but that only happens if and when everyone uses the shower at the same moment, just wait 30mins and everything will be fine. Upon request, they can arrange airport transport, last min. tours, etc. The "day" folks have a better command of english than at night. Just off the Plaza de Armas at the end of Avenue del Sol; next to the Italian Resturant (another good choice). Have to look for it. -- You will not be disappointed

Room tip: Front rooms are on the street - noisy, try to stay in the back. #208 was excellent

We were pleased with this hostal. They could accommodate our family of 4 in one room which can be difficult to find. We stayed in one room with 4 twim beds the first night. It looked to a church patio. After our return from Macchu Pichu we stayed in a different room with 4 twin beds. This 2nd one had a little patio that looked over the street. You could see the Plaza de Armas a block away. Being on the street it was a bit noisier but not too bad. The beds are hard like most places we stayed in Peru. The breakfast was nice plus they allowed me to store some food in the refrigerator. They welcomed us with coca tea. Very friendly. There was only one negative - a horrible sewage smell in the bathroom. It comes up through the shower drain. My husband was able to rid the first room as the drain was in the shower and by running the shower water to fill and push it through the trap. It was much better. In the 2nd room the drain was in the middle of the floor and so we could not run it. We don't think it was the hostal's fault but the building or even Cusco's old sewage system. I hope that the city or building have fixed it as it was awful. (Closing the bathroom door kept the smell away for the most part.) We would recommend booking here, but ask if this has been corrected.

Would not rush back, apart from the lack of water to which the answer was a big bottle off water, breakfast it's quite honestly not anywhere as good as other hostels.

With the 100's of 3 star hotels in Cuzco, we were bamboozed with where to stay.
Our friend, who runs a small local tour company, chose the Qosqo for us.

Why? Perfect location!

We loved our room, looking onto the main street. It had a tiny cute balcony (you could look down to the two squares), and we didn't mind a little bit of street noise.
The room was very tidy and clean. Hot water and comfortable bed. It was Cumfy.

The staff were always kind and friendly and extremely helpful, 'beyond the call of duty.' Even recommended a few reasonably priced restaurants.

For the few days you must stay in Cuzco, Qosqo is good value, and right where you want it.
