Cuzco's Plaza de Armas (or Centro Histórico) is impressive. The Cathedral and the Church surround the plaza, along with very nice historical buildings. It is quite big and a nice walking area, very alive. I'd advise you to go during different times of the day, so you'll see different activities and lights.
However, as a touristy spot, there's a lot of people trying to sell you things.
This area made us fall in love with Cusco. Walking around its historic center is a special opportunity. Even after a week of staying in the same neighborhood, we didn't get bored of simply wandering around. Even the hustlers that want to get you into their restaurant don't seem annoying when the backdrop is this area.
I was surprised by the magic, the nature of this site so surprising, I recommend visiting at party time if you like to see its culture alive
I had my lesson, and I sincerely do not want other people to have the same experience.
Be aware of the people walking in the plaza, carrying a case, and selling paintings.
If they tell you that they are the artist or something, do not believe it, all of the paintings are machine-made, and all these people sell the exact same kind of paintings.
One person told me each painting was about 60 USD, and it was his own artwork and needed support, so I bought 4 of them as my humble way to support him and hoped him all the best in his career. Then a few minutes later, another person presented me with the EXCAT SAME kind of painting, and it was 10 dollars. WHAT A SCAM! A scam of your pocket and your kindness,
If you come to Cusco, have parties while also being mindful, or visit landscapes by reputable trip operators. I do not recommend buying most of the souvenirs, as they are designed to scam us, tourists.
It was a terrible experience...
Historical place surraunded by churches, museums and many friendly pleople. October was an excellent month to visit with great wheather.
