I was there early September with my friend and we enjoyed our stay. Nice staff, good location, good breakfast....They arranged some day trips and kept our luggage when we were in Machu Picchu. I definitely recommend this place.

Nice staff, american breakfast, comfortable bedroom with Private bathroom. We slept very well in Quipu hostal. On the other hand location was not so good (20 minutes walking from Plaza de Armas) but you can always take a taxi (taxis are very cheap in Peru).

My friends and i stayed in this hostal for 12 days. It may be not best location but its a good walk from the plaza or other destinations. You can always take a taxi. (usually 3 or 4 soles but you can always bargain) The place is in being remodeled but still has some rooms available. We stayed in two rooms a single one and quadruple room. The single one was nice and cozy, the only problem is that you can hear everything from outside the streets. But still the bedroom was good, the bathroom was great and it has nice hot showers. In the other room was also good, the only bad thing that it did get cold, but once you settle down and you can ask more blankets and a heater it will get warmer. The shower was really the only problem it can be cold and hot. You gotta wake up early to use the nice hot water.

The Staff was really helpful and did everything they could do to make our stay wonderful. Mrs. Lida is the owner , she is really nice. One in our group got sick and she even made some soup for her. You can always ask for something, don't be afraid to ask or complain. Lida and her staff know how to deliver warm hospitality. The hostal is clean and tidy, and the courtyard is a great place to relax during the day. The breakfast is really good, they will make you eggs, give you plenty of bread, coca tea or manzanilla tea and milk. You can always ask for more, their staff will be happy to make you some more. Overall this is a nice place to stay, is not that expensive , it can a long walk from the plaza but for our own trip it was the ideal place to stay being close where we needed to go.

Room Tip: You can always ask or complain, they wont get mad. They will do everything that they do to help and make your stay better. You can ask to change a room if you want ( if its available)

I have mixed feelings about this place.

Let's start with the good: courtyard was nice to sit in and chill a little bit after we arrived, Eddie, the guy that helped us throughout most of our stay was very nice and helpful, and I felt like he was genuine. Did not speak English but my husband speaks some Spanish and we somehow managed despite running into some complicated issues. We stayed 2 nights, then did the 3 night trek to Machu Picchu, and returned for one more night. We had to get up early 2 of the 3 mornings and Eddie got up at 5:30am to cook us our breakfast (with eggs no charge).

The bad: we thought (from their website) that transportation from the airport to the hostel was included, but it turns out they just arrange a taxi pickup at the airport for you, with someone waiting for us at the gate to lead us to the taxi. We paid for the taxi ourselves when we arrived at hostel.
But worse, our second night in our room we noticed these teeny tiny bugs on the walls, quite a lot actually, near the bed, near our clothes, near our backpacks. Didn't see any in bed, but wasn't sure if they were bedbugs or not. We were very concerned, so we called in Eddie to take a look, he didn't know what they were either. We asked to move but they said they didn't have any other rooms...(but we only saw two other people at the hostel...) So we stayed in that room and I had a hard time sleeping from fear of those bugs getting into our clothes and bed. The next morning I guess Eddie notified the owner Lidia who asked us if we brought in the bugs from jungle since we were just in. Puerto Maldonado. Really? We were insulted. We were glad to leave for our Machu Picchu trek, but that meant leaving our bags with them, and we hoped that no bugs got in over night. When we returned 5 days later to stay for one more night before leaving Cusco, they told us that the bugs were from the plants in the yard, and not bedbugs, but they were able to place us in another room. (No bugs found in that room).

Overall, we were impressed by Eddie and his hospitality, they stored our bags for 5 days, that was nice. but we were disappointed with the whole bug situation. The rooms we stayed in looked fairly clean, not renovated or new, but clean enough. Sadly I don't think we will stay here again despite the price being good for Cusco, hence the average rating.
