Went to this establishment for lunch with the family. Service was attentive and food for the most part was good. I had the cochinita pibil which are pork tacos in a vinegary sauce which was quite good. The wife had the enchiladas which she though were just ok. Nice atmosphere in a quaint setting. Slightly expensive but a good meal overall.

Real Mexican food at a reasonable price... great service, friendly ambiance & good drinks.

We had a variety of items from the menu, all were flavorful and perfectly served.

Worth a trip! Sorry, I can't remember everything I've eaten here but sauces are delicious, made from scratch, home cooked. The service is friendly, quick and the prices are excellent. Quiet, relaxed atmosphere. I just love it.
Kinda wish the serving sizes were bigger but hey, I should eat appetizers I guess.

Boy, did Hubby & I have an underwhelming dining experience at La Enfrijolada. After reading a glowing review on a local blog, we headed for La Enfrijolada thinking "Yippee, great Mexican food!!". But no...sad tears...there was to be no joy for us that day. We arrived at 11am for breakfast...only one other diner in the place. Service was glacially slow. Twenty minutes to be served juice and then another 20 min. for our food to arrive. Remember, there was only one other diner there during our entire time. What, you might ask, did we order that would take soooo long? I had "Huevos Mexicana" and Hubby had "Huevos Rancheros". "Huevos Mexicana" was meant to be scrambled eggs with onions and peppers along with refried beans but if I hadn't seen the description on the menu, I'd not have know what it was. Five dollars for two abused eggs and three spoonfuls of beans. Very little flavor. Hubby's "Huevos Rancheros" was two fried eggs on a corn tortilla with green sauce and three spoonfuls of beans. Worst Huevos Rancheros he'd ever had. Hubby ordered a side of Chorizo and we would have laughed at it's pitiful self except that the price was $3.00...for two spoonfuls of overcooked, dry sausage that was flavorless from being charred to death. Outrageous! In Cuenca..where you can get an entire flavorful meal for $2.00! We'd ordered the half liter of fresh juice and it never arrived. Hubby ordered coffee...the only palatable thing of our meal but not great by any means. The only explanation we could come up with for this wreck of a meal was that the host must have been filling in for the cook while we were there. So...$18.00 for our breakfast. We've lived in Cuenca for a couple of years now and have dined in many restaurants from homey little hole in the walls (often the best food!) to five star restaurants and this was our first time feeling like we'd been ripped off. Such a letdown that we'll not be returning.

I've gone to La Enfrijolada many times for my Mexican fix. It's by far the best Mexican restaurant in Cuenca. Try the black bean soup a real treat and the chicken and black bean enchiladas, excellent. They now are serving breakfast on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. I had the Machaca, which is beef and scrabbled eggs with fresh squeezed orange juice and a basket of fresh bread, it was first rate. The interior has a Mexican flare and the side room has a small art gallery. The service is excellent and prices are reasonable. If you like Mexican food, this is a must.
