The meats, in particular the steaks and chicken, are fantastic here both in flavor and quality. Serving sizes are more than adequate for most people. The lemonade is made from fresh lemons. Nice ambiance which has elements of an upscale diner, a sports bar, and a classy restaurant. Good place for a date or simply to enjoy good food and a nice view of Cuenca from the balcony.

We ventured up to the Fogo restaurant for a Sunday dinner and pleasant overview of the city of Cuenca. My choice was "Costillo de Cerdo" - pork ribs with French fries and "choclo asado" or corn on the cob. We began with a fried mozzarella entree - 8 nice logs of mozzarella gently fried and stacked in two layers and accompanied by a freshly smashed (with a fork) tomato, pesto and basil dipping sauce. Then my pork ribs arrived - hot, tender, and juicy, covered with a sweetish BBQ sauce. I tried a French fry - it was very hot, too. The corn on the cob was nicely roasted over the grill and covered with a pesto sauce and melted cheese. It was not yellow "sweet" corn, but a tender cob of traditional choclo - white corn, picked young enough to be sweet and appropriately resistant when eaten. The "ribs" I was served contained 100% pork meat and was a generous serving, too. Although some servings of "ribs" do contain pork ribs, much to my surprise, mine was pure meat with no bones! Now we were full, but there was one more temptation on the menu - a chocolate brownie with ice cream and chocolate and caramel sauces plus chopped nuts. It looked too good to resist - and it was delicious. All was delicious and the fact that the food arrived at the table almost too hot for me to eat was a big plus - we look forward to trying other items on the menu on our next visit. The restaurant was quite full - service started at 12:30 and children accompanied by an adult eat free on Sundays (as of this writing), so there were several nice family groups present. Might want to make a reservation if visiting on a Sunday afternoon. Find info on Fogo at the website of the El Dorado hotel http://www.eldoradohotel.com.ec/Restaurantes-Bares/Fogo-Grill-Bar.

Some friends of mine and I recently enjoyed celebrating a Christmas Party at Fogo. The food was excellent, complimented by the refreshing beverages. There was no room for dessert. We plan on returning again, soon. Hope to see you there!

We mainly went here for the view, which turned out to just be ok. The food (burger and club sandwich) were marginal at best and the waiter "accidentally" added an extra drink on our bill at the end of the night. It was a $4 taxi ride one way from the historic area. Would not recommend this place for anyone looking to experience the local culture and food.
