This place was loaded with charm. The old wood floors were special. The room was good size as was the bathroom. There is no air conditioning so it could get a bit warm in there during the day and opening the windows cooled things off well at night but we were right off the street so it was noisy at times. The location was excellent as everything was within walking distance.

Loved our stay. Staff was incredibly helpful and patient. Located in perfect location to walk to most everything and great restaurants. Traffic is heavy in area so expect it to take awhile to arrive. But once there you can easily walk and explore. Rooms are comfortable, hot shower, breakfast. But staff went out of their way to give us a enjoyable experience.

This is the second time I've stayed at Casa San Rafael. I was as happy on this visit. The inn has a terrific location. Walking distance to everything in colonial Cuenca. The inn is well appointed and quite charming. The staff is hospitable and willing to accommodate all reasonable requests. The beds are very comfortable. Really the only recommendation is a suggestion to place a water bottle on a daily basis per guest. Oh and the breakfast was really good. I would recommend highly.

Room Tip: I think all the rooms were good. Just be aware on the third level at least some of the rooms have no window, a sklylight yes.

Beautiful hotel, free validated parking a couple blocks away. Friendliest staff, offered to help with luggage from our car. Spoke English and Spanish.

Security at the hotel was nice; locked front door only opened by staff.

Free breakfast was delicious (choice of eggs-fried or scrambled, yogurt with granola and fruit, coffee, juice of the day, and choice of bread-traditional or sliced).

The room was huge. We weren't sure why we got two double beds, but it was nice. We had steps up to the third floor, which normally wouldn't have been bad but the high altitude made us get out of breathe quickly. We got used to it by the second day.

Also, one very nice tidbit: they gave us a map of Cuenca, which had all of the big sites to see, so traversing the city wasn't all that bad.

A few nits that we didn't mind but others might (all having to do with the bathroom): the bathroom door didn't shut, the bathroom window didn't lock and stayed open, the shower leaked water all over the bathroom floor (from the tub to the door), and the toilet paper holder didn't hold the toilet paper.

Room Tip: Inside rooms seem quieter

I ll leave the following details to sustain the 3 points overall rating:

4● : authenticity of the place, quality & stability of the wufi, security at the entrance door, breakfast quality and well served
3●: room size (207) was very small with no windows but that was that or the 304 which has bigger space but cold as Alaska. And a view on surrounding houses' roofs. Size of bathroom too is really small.
2●: maids are really noisy which affects the cosiness and the tranquility of the place. They work outside the 12 am -3 pm range which does not allow one to be able to rest quietly. They start to work (mixer, etc..) in kitchen before 7 am, so forget to sleep after that time too.
1●: 1 recepcionist entered the room without knocking on the door, unfortunately I forgot to lock the door,
As we were resting half naked on the bed, a bit unconfortable...

Globally for the price paid, $25 p.p. / p.n. (booking.com discount reservation) you can't really complain too much but I guess still ask for some improvment.
