Their tasting menu was truly outstanding. A really fun food trip through Ecuador's regions. It was awesome to have Andean/Ecuadorian ingredients/dishes prepared with modern, world-class cooking techniques. The Trip Advisor app sucks and is not displaying the pictures I took of each dish. So I had to upload a composite I used for the gram. Go to Zazu. It rules. Their wine list is banging, also.

We had heard much good about Zazu and went to dine at our anniversary. Due to the recommendations, we chose the Chefs menu. Out of five dishes, three were excellent, the main course was overcooked and with octopus not well prepared; even a complain and a new serving did not change the course, it was not ok. The dessert was US size, ie big and too much after four dishes. Really disappointing!

After the initial tour meeting for our tour group at a nearby hotel, we decided to go out to dinner together and after checking Trip Advisor for highly ranked restaurants nearby, we settled on Zazu. As we did our research rather quickly, we glossed over the fact that it is definitely fine dining and we were not exactly dressed for it. Kudos to them for treating us well and not sending us away even though we were not exactly the clientele they were looking for.

The food was good, the service was attentive and I would recommend Zazu if you are looking for fine dining in Quito.

The food and service here are both fantastic. The extensive wine list is very impressive and we were made to feel very welcome. Try the chocolate sphere for dessert, it is a tasty spectacle. An excellent way to end our family trip to Ecuador.

We arrived and were seated in a room with one other couple from the US. They were from SoCal and we joked that we must be in the English speaking room. Good wine list including options by the glass. The menu was interesting with too many good choices. We decided against the multiple course menu because we weren't hungry enough. The starters were not exciting but enjoyable. The main entree was both unique and delicious. Our waiter explained the shrimp dish was not exactly made in the traditional way but we wouldn't have known what that was. The whole shrimp with a peanut salt crumble on one side of the dish and cubes of plantain bread on the other delivered with a sauce poured over upon arrival was special. The shrimp were cooked perfectly and the unique textures and flavors worked. The dessert made table side next to us grabbed my attention. It was ice cream made at the table and I was told the flavor available was a vanilla. That was a mis-communication but the mixed berry fruit combined with liquid nitrogen was the only flavor choice so that's what I was served. The berry flavors were very tart and the vanilla merengue and crumbles tossed in top of the berry ice cream cut the sharpness so it was a great finish. The service dragged toward the end of the meal as the staff were busy with more tables. There was a second staff person who jumped in to assist our waiter who had been gone for quite a long time. We would definitely go back when in Quito for this special place and we would try more dishes too.
