In the mood for pizza and found this place on TA. Fit 2 important parameters: 1) walking distance to my hotel and 2) highly rated.
Cafe San Blas did not disappoint! We ordered different entrees to share/try. We got a pasta, calzone and a pizza. The portions are very generous. The calzone was the best. The pizza was close to the best and the pasta was very good. We got the spaghetti bolognese and the sauce was on the sweet side but quite good. The pasta was perfectly cooked. The pizza did not come with a red sauce but the crust rivaled a brick oven pizza back home in the states. The calzone was stuffed with cheese and meat (Americano) and the pastry was well prepared. Again, I would have liked a little more sauce but it was very tasty nevertheless.
As other reviewers have noted, the wine pours are also very generous.
Small, family owned place - Silvia (owner?) is quiet but very nice. Service was prompt and attentive.
We got there right at 6:00 and waited until they opened at 6:20. The wait was worth it! Also liked that I saw a lot of locals there versus tourists. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
Tip: the restaurant is TINY. 3 4-top tables, 2 2-top high bar tables and I think 4 bar stools. Don't be surprised if there is a line during the busy dinner hours. I saw a few people order as take away if the line is too long?
