We happened upon this fabulous bookstore when walking around old Quito, and just when we needed a new book! Mark is an amazing man, with a huge heart. Not only does he know his books, he knows people and what is important. When I was robbed of my cell phone and wallet on the street, he was so kind to me, calmed me down, offered a cup of tea, good advice, and reminded me of what was really important. Hugest thanks to him, and I wish him all the best, since he doles it out to all!

The English Bookstore is a great place. It should be pretty easy to find. Give Mark a call if you have any questions or trouble finding the place. A taxi shouldn't be much more than $2 from the old shop in La Mariscal, heading south. The bus could get you within a few blocks. 25¢. Or go for a good walk. Go for the adventure. And get back to your hostel or hotel with a good read.

This store has a wide range of second hand books for decent prices. There is also books in other languages, besides english. The owner of the store is extremely helpful and beside giving tips on books, he also gave us many good tips for life in Ecuador. Oh and there is also a book rental service.

If you are in Ecuador and want to find books in foreign languages, this is the place to be!

Friendly, knowledgeable service with a cup of tea and great conversation as nice bonuses. Books to rent or buy with many titles.

One of the first places in Quito you should visit for several reasons. Besides a great selection of reading material at good prices, you can get loads of travel information from Mark the owner or other travelers that may be in. On top of that, the atmosphere of the bookshop itself is very welcoming and relaxed. You can also share all kinds of travel stories or talk politics over a cup of tea. In addition, it is in the heart of the Mariscal where all the action is, which is a great starting point in Quito. I guarantee a pleasant visit if you make it there.

The Bookshop is one of the nicest places in Quito to visit. Quaint, and a haven full of best-selling authours as well as rarities as well as the best customer service and charm available in the area. Thank you Mark!

It's always like visiting a friend when you come across a shop that sells books in your native language.

What a great selection of books and lovely owner. We had great 30 minutes chat about life in general. It is more like community centre. Prices of books are fair. From 4 dollars you can get great book or trade yours. Hugely recommend. PS. We will say Hello to Essex (owner is from Essex)
