We stayed four nights at this hotel. The friendly atmosphere, the perfect service and the excellent cuisine of the restaurant make this place one of the best i have ever been. The location could not be better, directly located at Plaza San Francisco in the Old City. The reception desk helped us to get the contact to a local guide to visit Quito. The choice of the guide (Marco) was perfect, thanks to him we learned a lot about the country, the city and the people. Fully agree with the comment of another traveller: we felt home when we came back after our hiking tour for one last night in Casa Gangotena.

A full refurbishment in 2011 makes this clearly the best luxury option in town. Unrivalled location on the corner of San Francisco square in an old colonial building. Rooms are spacious with classic colonial style. Excellent service overall. Really good breakfast buffet service.

The hotel has a great roof terrace with wonderful nighttime views over the city, but for some strange reason there is no bar service to the tables that are set up there.

Wifi is slow and dropped connection regularly, but this is probably a universal problem in Ecuador.

We spent the last few nights of our honeymoon in Quito at Casa Gangotena. It was an amazing hotel with top notch service. Everyone is very attentive and they will cater to your every need.

They helped us plan a birding trip to Refugio Paz de las Aves to see the Antpittas and the Cock of the Rock. They packed us lunch and had coffee ready for us at 4am with out us even asking. Besides the service the rooms are amazing and the food is really good too.

Thanks for all of the great memories, it was truly unforgettable.

Room Tip: We stayed in terrace 2 and had a small private balcony.

What a lovely hotel. Fairly newly renovated. We stayed two nights in adjoining rooms with our children. The rooms are beautiful with fantastic furnishings and all marble bathrooms. Turndown service includes little pastries which are delicous. Afternoon tea is very civilized. The location couldn't be better. Service fantastic. Breakfast and dinner at the restaurant was fantastic. I have no complaints but our children would have wanted a pool. This is the best for adults, although the kids were very impressed with the hotel also.

This was previously a private dwelling, until it was recently converted into a hotel. It must have been a splendid place before. The conversion into a hotel has been done with great sensitivity and taste. We were just staying for 2 nights and wished it was more. The location is excellent, at one side of the Plaza San Francisco, in the historic quarter of Quito.
Both the public rooms and the bedrooms are magnificent. There is a very peaceful garden at the back of the hotel.
At four in the afternoon there is free tea and cakes, as part of the deal. As we had spent all day sightseeing and hadn't managed to stop for lunch, we managed to eat the whole 2 tier cake and savoury stand all by ourselves. Delicious.
The suite that we were staying in was first class. It was very spacious and airy, with high ceilings and chandeliers. The lap of luxury.
The breakfast was excellent. My wife was more than somewhat distressed that we had to leave without breakfast on the second day, because Quito was being closed for a marathon race and we needed to get to the airport.
The views from the terrace on top of the hotel were stunning and I enjoyed myself taking pictures both at daytime and night time.
I didn't see any children when we stayed. The hotel might be too formal for most childrens' tastes, but I am just guessing about that.

Room Tip: Possibly it would be best to avoid rooms directly overlooking Plaza San Francisco, if there was any...
