The La Belle Epoque is a gracious, well presented restaurant that provides a very pleasant ambiance. My first course was good but I had to send back my main because it was served cold. The main was replaced but it was not tasty. Dessert was fine. The service was slipshod with errors being made on drink orders; white wine not being kept in a cooler after opening; the use of the same glasses for white and red wines. Despite the appearance of an up-market restaurant, the inconsistencies in food and service suggests a mediocre establishment. However, the entertainment provided by a pair of opera singers was delightful.

The restaurant is located on the first floor of the Plaza Grande hotel in the old town of Quito. The restaurant is a mix of lovely brown woods with burgundy tablecloths and curtains giving a warm luxurious feel with candelabrums on each table, ceremoniously lit when the diners are seating, adding to the fine dining experience. Ask for a window seat to enjoy a charming view of the town square and church to fully appreciate the atmosphere. We started with the fish carpaccio and grilled seafood both of which were excellent in terms of presentation, freshness and taste. The wine list was a good selection of Chilean, Argentinian and Spanish wines with limited but adequate options per glass in my opinion. I paired the starters with a sauvignon blanc from Chile. For mains we had the Uruguayan beef and prawns. I asked the waiter what the cut of beef was to determine my preference for cooking and was told rib eye hence chose medium. The beef was actually striploin, which I would generally order rare, hence the meat was a bit overcooked for my taste. Even so the steak was very tasty and tender. The prawns were slightly overcooked making an otherwise wonderful dish somewhat dry and chewy. I asked for a Cab Sav to pair with the beef and despite asking three times for the wine to be poured before the starters were served, to allow for the wine to breathe, the wine arrived in an newly opened bottle as the steak was served. Perhaps the request was lost in translation with the 2 staff serving us as their English was quite basic. Other than this minor issue the service was fine dining standard.

Went here with my wife for a Valentine's date night. Ambiance is very romantic, baroque style. Sets in well in the Quito old town district. The opera singers certainly put the final touch on "romantic". It is considered an expensive restaurant in Quito; plan on spending $40-60 per person. But the food quality is excellent. For being a fancy restaurant, the food portions are generous. They also give you free water, bread, and a complimentary appetizer. I will definitely return.

A most enjoyable dinner and had the pleasure of listening to two local tenors during dinner. They interacted with the clients during their show. Was not expected so it was a really wonderful evening. The meal was excellent and the view from the dinning room of the Plaza Grande is breathtaking in the evening.

This is a very well situated restaurant in Quito old town.
It is very elegant, and has a romantic atmosphere.
The food is really good, and trendy. There is refinement in the way as the food is served.
You should dress to the occasion, athought it is not mandatory, but this atmosphere sure deserves it.
