Came here as a stopover on our Peru/ Easter Island trip before our return to the UK. Nice colonial wrap hotel big rooms. Reconditioned recently though no air con. Fans are available. Wifi in two flavours both free and reasonable speed. Staff very helpful. We came out of season (Sept ) not busy less than half a dozen rooms occupied. Restaurant is very good. Recommend the beef. Would be michelin starred for the food. Breakfasts not so good but fine. TV watchable with some English films with Spanish subtitles. We arrived late and staff were waiting for us. Also did a late checkout (1pm) for our transfer to airport 120km. Nice area to walk around. Recommend a trip round the harbour (30 mins). Quite cheap. Also see quite a number of ex UK navy ships still going strong.

Location: center of town in “upscale” area.

Appearance: attractive red and white chateau – Victorian style building.

Arrival: hotel arranged pick-up by independent tourist service from Santiago airport. Despite late night flight arrival, we were picked up on time. Ride to hotel was nearly 2 hours long. Vehicle was a mini-van. Service was excellent.

Check-In: This was complicated. The street in front of the hotel was under construction. The car had to park behind the hotel and we had to carry our bags through an adjacent building and along the sidewalk. There was one individual to check us in. We were quite unimpressed with our arrival.

Lobby: Modest size. The nicest elements were a large curved staircase and a small, quaint room that served as a reading room/library. A small section of the lobby also served as a breakfast nook for hotel guests.
The hotel looked as though it were in various stages of necessary improvements.

Elevator: One - small.

Rooms: Eclectic furniture that seemed inconsistent with the exterior hotel style. Room was sufficient in size for 1-2 nights, but it was hot and a fan was needed to cool it as the recently installed thermostat was not connected to anything. The bathroom was modern but the floor tiles were stained. The balcony was small and dirty and overlooked construction. Our instinctive desire was to leave.

Housekeeping: adequate; room was kept clean.

Food: sparse continental breakfast was average. We ate out.

Staff: Sufficiently accommodating, but not terribly friendly.

Hotel Amenities: Spa and restaurant.

Activities: Valparaiso is an impoverished dilapidated town that no longer enjoys the wealth of commerce and trade it once had as a major port town. Still, with exploration, there is much to be seen and enjoyed including some excellent restaurants, and an over-abundance of graffiti-covered buildings.

Parking/Transportation: the hotel took care of all transportation.

Check-Out: Uncomplicated.

Overall/Value: Cost was reasonable. However, this was listed as a Relais & Chateaux property at the time, and so our expectations were deservedly high. However, there was virtually nothing about this hotel that we found consistent Relais & Chateau standards. It has since been de-listed. Two nights in Valparaiso were enough for us. If we were to return, we would chose a different hotel.

Dear. Guest:

Along with greetings, we are very sorry about this situation and at the same time we are reading this taking care of every single detail that you have described.

During your stay with us the Valparaíso Local Council and the Regional Government of the Vth Region were making improvements in our main street and some areas around the hotel, and that is the reason why you had to face up with some discomfort with situations that sadly were out of our control.

Now it is a pleasure to inform that all the work in progress are successfully finished and at the same time we are improving our services every day to make all our guest's stay unforgettable.

We really appreciate your feedback and it would be a pleasure to see you again to give you the experience that you deserve.

Should you require any further information, please feel free to contact us again,

Best Regards,

Alfredo Rojas

Fantastic room, large in size, very comfortable bed & pillows, great views, large shower, wonderful terrace and friendly, helpful and efficient staff. My husband and I were very happy with our stay at this hotel. The area was filled with cafes, restaurants and art/craft shops down hidden passageways.

Great location and nice room with large porch. Lovely to sit on and have wine or pisco sours! Hotel was a relais et chateau but no longer. Like most of the buildings in valporaiso a little run down but location and views were excellent. Doubt you'd find anything better in the city. Restaurant staff were very friendly and food was quite good.
