To see religious relics of the past, that have meant so much to so many past and present, is phenomenal. Anyone can enter the church and have a moment of solitude away from the noise of the busy streets outside. Museum is very inexpensive to enter. Amazing pieces.

Very cheap entry fee around $2.00 AUD. It is the oldest church in the city, and the museum has some really old Colonial religious art.

There is a Moaï from Easter Island in a park in front of the church that you can actually touch as opposed to the ones on Easter Island.

There are paintings and works of art in this museum that are from the 15th century that you would never be allowed near in Australia that you can reach out and touch (Please don't).

The most fascinating piece, and the the only one being guarded is the 19th century Illuminati Roman Missal, decorated in silver and red velvet.

This museum is a jewel, forming part of the San Francisco church enclosure, next door to the hotel of the same name. It costs almost nothing to visit and is stocked with interesting artefacts dating back five hundred years. Museum attendants will spontaneously come and explain exhibits' history with no expectation of a tip or any of that nonsense. Highly recommended.

I suppose religious people would enjoy looking at dozens of pictures of saints and Jesus but I thought it was a bit repetitive. It really needs some work also, the frames were rotting and the buildings were run down though the garden was quite nice. Some of the old furniture was really good and so were the numerous paintings of people being decapitated, not understanding Spanish I wasn't sure who they were supposed to be.

We wandered into this museum somewhat by accident, and loved the chance to explore and be part of something so much older than our county has. The architecture, the artefacts and the experience all make this a museum that is worth exploring. It is simple, possibly 'old fashioned' but quiet, restful and a different world to what is outside.
