A Fish market with heaps of places to eat. If you enjoy the smell of fresh fish - delivered daily into the busy market then this is the place for you.

Several restaurants which serve mostly seafood.

A nice little walk around, but like other travellers said - this area of Santiago is pick pocket central - so just be aware of your things and surroundings - I had no issues on my 2 visits to this location.

Called with our tour guide and enjoyed the market. Was advised not to display jewellery or cameras before hand... 'ditch the gold'. Market was good, in particular the fish market. Worth a visit.

My cell phone was ripped out of my pocket by a gang of thieves at 2:30pm in broad daylight and they ran across traffic. I read some warnings about the place but couldn't believe it was that bad. At the police station, there was another couple robbed near there also. But no police anywhere around the area, just lots of criminals. And the police station was no help either - 2-3 hour wait just to file a report.

Stopped by whilst on a guided tour. Nice atmosphere, and certainly one of a large number of attractions that are worth seeing in the city. However, it is as much of an eating place as a market. We were advised by the locals that for the same money you can get a much better meal in a restaurant, but time permitting it would have been great to eat in the market - there are so many eating places to choose from.

The building itself has a lot of architectural interest so either get a guided tour or read up about it first.

I have seen comments about safety - just take the same precautions you would in any major city, no loose jewellery, no wallets on show, hold cameras. Don't make yourself an easy target. We did a lot of walking and had no problems.

It is always enjoyable to visit these SA Central Markets be it large or small town / city. They add a dimension to living we miss from many locations north of the Equator. Today time was limited such that we could not avail of the large restaurant section serving an assortment of fist dishes. You might find this area of the city worthy of a visit.
