First lets start with the positives, the location is great. Just 3 minutes walk to Bras Basah MRT station and 5 minutes walk to Dhoby Ghaut MRT in the other direction. The bus stop located right outside the front door is also useful for those heading towards Bugis Junction, Raffles City, Clarke Quay, all those places are within 5 minutes journey by bus.
The room is quite newly renovated and modern looking, its a little bit smaller than i've expected but i don't feel cramped or whatsoever. The bath amenities are from French Connection, and they have these Japanese toilet washer installed on the toilet. Just remember to switch on the washer before you use them. I thought the were broken at first, since it wasn't working when i pressed the washer button, but then the next day i realised that there is a switch outside the bathroom (just beside the bathroom light switch) that says "Toilet Cover". Just switch them on before you use the toilet and you are good to go.
The MRT construction next door wasn't as intrusive as i thought it would be. My room was facing the pool and i did not hear any construction activities going on.
Now to the downside, before staying at this hotel I've read reviews on tripadvisor that the staffs are rude, unfriendly and cold. At first, I thought how bad could it be? I feel that those people might be overreacting and too demanding on the staffs. But then after experiencing it myself i have to agree with them, i seldom write negative reviews unless its really necessary to point out. The check in staff was not that bad, but when I had checked out, i left my luggage at the concierge to do some last minute shopping at Orchard before my evening flight. When i returned to the hotel at noon, i collected my luggage and went to the chairs at the side of the lobby to put my last minute shopping items inside my luggage. While i was doing so, an Indian man approached me and said "If you want to pack your bags, please go to the side" he said that in a stern and demanding voice while pointing his finger at the back. I was surprised, as i wasn't even blocking the way and I wasn't even in the main seating area of the lobby. The lobby was empty and it wasn't crowded at all. I did not even create any mess, all i did was just opened my luggage and put my shopping bags inside, the whole thing took me less than 2 minutes. What upsets me is his tone of voice, the way he was treating me was like as if i was some salesman or beggar that is soliciting in his lobby. Initially, I thought he was one of the security guy, but then when he returned to his desk i was shocked to see the "Duty Manager" sign on his desk. He was the duty manager! Is that the way a duty manager treats his guest? I find that it's rude of him to do that. Sure, maybe its the hotel policy that no guest are allowed to pack in the lobby, but i would be more appreciative and understanding if he said it in a more friendly and tactful manner. After all we are guest of the hotel. If any of the management team is reading this, i suggest that the duty manager mentioned above be sent to some hospitality school to have some guest relation training or something. There's no point in having clean grand lobby and newly renovated rooms but awful hotel duty manager as staff. Hotel is about hospitality. I was about to leave the hotel on a positive note, but the duty manager managed to ruin the experience right at the last minute.
