Owner description: NUS Baba House is a heritage house which exhibits the Straits Chinese material culture in a domestic context, providing the unique experience of visiting a Straits Chinese family home dating back to the early 20th century. It facilitates research and learning about the history, culture and evolution of the Peranakan community, as well as architectural traditions, urban changes and conservation efforts in Singapore. The gallery on the third floor hosts temporary exhibitions encouraging discourses on cultural encounters, hybridity and their contemporary implications in Singapore and beyond. - English Heritage Tours Tuesday – Friday, 10am - Mandarin Heritage Tour : First Monday of each month, 10am Self-guided Visit: Saturday, 1.30pm / 2.15pm / 3.15pm / 4pm

A must see for locals n tourists alike! This unique museum is once a living home of the rich Peranakan family. The guided tours are informative n thorough if you wish to see how the Peranakans lived , in the past. Highly recommend this!

Really enjoyed our visit here. We have been to Penang and Malacca and the Peranakan museum in Singapore previously and have visited a lot of historical properties associated with the Peranakan heritage. This building is being restored and maintained by the NUS. It is not a visit to explain the culture etc, you should go to the museum for an in depth explanation of that, although of course there are some explanations on the tour, which lasts about an hour. Primarily this is a house of conservation and renovation education. Thanks to the staff for taking time to open the house to the public and its free, they do not even ask for donations, that is not the point. Make sure you book and turn up on time.

This family home is a blend of ethnic Chinese and Malay architecture. It has been restored by the National University of Singapore. The front facade has vivid colours. Behind that are decorative wooden screens leading to a large courtyard. There is nice wooden altar. The upper level has bedrooms with great furniture and portraits. You literally travel to an early twentieth century Singapore home.

Very informative visit with helpful knowledgeable guides, the house gives a glimpse in to the past lives of a unique heritage not found anywhere else but South East Asia, it's great to see the house preserved and maintained for future generations, we really enjoyed the tour (which had to be booked) the tour would most likely suit people interested in history, a casual visitor may not appreciate the house to it's full extent.

This NUS attraction is not to be missed. Be sure to book ahead and have a second date in mind if you are not able to get your preferred day. An hour long, step back into early Singapore life with the aide of a well trained guide. You will learn lots of interesting facts and trivia. Not suitable for young children.
