The Basilico is stylish, service is good, atmosphere is relaxed. Perfect if you don’t want to leave the Regent for dinner. They have a large selection of wines but they are rather expensive which seems to be consistent in Singapore. Food was good & if you love cheese they have a cheese room. The wait staff were very friendly. We enjoyed our evening.

The Basilio is a Singapore classic, a well done and predictable one. The food and the atmosphere are congenital, the light excellent, the chairs a bit too deep for conversation but very comfortable, and the food delightfully fresh, delightful varied and abundant. The open buffet has the best fresh Italian burrata, the most delicious hams and sausages, and lovely crisp, really tasty tomatoes and other more classically Italian veggies. Tempting to take too much! All delicious and made more so by creation of a special cheese room that is amazing - varied, pungent, beautiful.

I was disappointed with my selection of Basilico for a special celebration, and in this instance the reviews I have read across the net and on Tripadvisor didn’t meet the reality of the evening.

I was disappointed largely due to the room (how its setup and the noise) and the service (which was patchy - ranging from good to really random). To food, was on balance good, and the pasta excellent.

The room (ambiance 0/5)

If you are looking for a cafeteria like experience, noise and a buffet. Then this would be ok. If you’re looking for a Italian restaurant, then this will be disappointing. The noise is remarkable - you won’t be able to have a conversation with out raising your voice to a shout. The constant bustle of guest (and its their right) makes the ambiance resemble a train station, not a restaurant. The dress code says, smart casual: which in Singapore... tends towards casual, rather than smart.

I had asked for a quiet table, and the front desk placed us in a quiet annex. This was ok, it’s in the atrium of the main hotel, and feels a little cold and impersonal. But this doesn’t work, when the front of house fills the annex with kids. Our server did move us.... to an even noisier table. At that stage, we had not ordered yet, and should have left. The ambience of the room was not in keeping with the evening that we were planning.

Service (3/5)
I think it depends on the server. Observation from the evening, the first server, she was well meaning, but had no idea of what is on the menu or recommendations - to the point we needed another server.

The next one had a good command of the menu, and could engage in a conversation about choices.

Food (3/5) - if only the pasta 5/5
We had the crispy octopus to start. Pretty good, a little reminiscent of the 1990’s and heavy handed with the dressing, but basically a good dish.

The pasta, this was a stand out. Probably one of the best pasta’s across the board. Definitely the highlight of the night.

Lamb and Beef: Lamb very good. The Beef, again a throw back from the 1990’s heavy handed execution - imagine this an excellent quality cow died to have this done to it. We all know that this can be better

An evening out is the combination of all the elements of the restaurant. There is too much against the room as a quality dining experience, that I can only say “disappointed”. 2/5 This is a case where the sum of the parts is less than the pasta.

If however, you want a train station pasta experience, this is the best!

Yesterday I have decided to bring my girlfriend to this Italian restaurant. Despite all the good reviews, I found it extremely miserable in service (waitress don't know what to do, they serve food and collect empty plates at the same time, etc.), and totally not authentic on how the food is cooked and various ingredients. We had Spaghetti all’Astice and Tonno alla Siciliana. The food was not fresh, the taste was bad and we have been feeling sick all night long (both of us). I have reported it to the Police and to the Food Authority of Singapore.

We had a large family gathering for a birthday celebration at Basilico's Sunday Brunch. We were in a semi private room with a view of the pool. The Brunch was incredible with an amazing choice of food. The champagne was excellent as was the choice of wines. Everyone in our group enjoyed the experience immensely. The one year old was happily entertained in the Children's Corner for the duration of our meal which was a wonderful bonus for her parents. The cheese room had a superb array of Italian cheeses. Our waiter (Edgar?) was truly exceptional. Everyone in our party had flown into Singapore from China, UK and Australia for this Brunch and we were not disappointed. I highly recommend the Sunday Brunch for its excellent quality and value and its capacity to deal with large groups.
