I stayed at the Lagen Island Resort for 5 nights. My first reaction was "WOW!" upon seeing the lovely location, the first class accomodations, fantastic customer service, and the extremely friendly staff. Everyone there really tries to help you have a good time. The activities coordinators are a great help in planning the outings. You can use all the facilities as well as it's sister resort on Miniloc and the various island beach clubs. They have excellent facilities, boats, kayaks and guides that made this a great vacation. My only complaint would be about the food. It wasn't bad, but all meals are buffet style, and after a day or 2, the food becomes repetitive. The food is also geared to the Asian guests almost exclusively, meaning not much "western" food is available apart from salads and some breakfast items. It's a small complaint really, but adding some ala cart meals would be welcome.

Although we went during rainy season, we wouldn't have had it any other way. Coming from Canada, the weather was just right not too hot or too cold for us. We were pleasantly surprised that the place was just as you see it in the pictures, the views were all breathtaking. The service we received was top notch whether it be from the waiters at dinner or from the tour guide assigned to take us from island to island. The food was superb, the best of western and native cuisine and whats more, all of it was included on our tour payment.

We will never forget our trip there, or the staff that made all that possible!

Stayed there with my wife for New Year's. Our first day at the resort really started with the flight from Manila to El Nido on the resort's arranged transport. The airplane was small but the flight was relatively short considered how we got to Manila. When they warn you that you may get wet in the transfer from the beach to the hotel, definitely heed their warning. There's a changing faciility at the airport to change to shorts and sandals as necessary. After a short wait where snacks are served, you take an air-conditioned jeepney for a short ride to the beach. From the beach you take one boat, only to transfer to a second boat further away from shore. The boat ride to the hotel is beautiful though. You see all the different islands and the color of the water is aquablue. Once at the resort you're greeted for check-in. Since there were a group of us that arrived at the resort at the same time, they called guests one-by-one.

We stayed on a Water Cottage which had a great view of the rain forest and the lagoon. The inside of the cottage is mostly wood (e.g., floors). It's not the most luxurious place I've stayed, but it was comfortable and sufficient. The balcony was excellent. It was great just sitting on the balcony, breathing the fresh air and looking at nature (my nap on the balcony was great!). The sunsets are awesome too. By the way, there's no TV in the room for those who are looking for one.

Food at the resort is ok. Each of the meals are buffet. They also have a sundry store for snacks and ice cream. You really have no choice of restaurants unless you take a boat ride back to El Nido town.

Activities were great. We did the hike through the rain forest which was a little treacherous due to the heavy rains prior to our stay that washed out some of the terrain. Once we were at the other side of the island, rock climbing activities were available. Note: there's no water or snacks on the other end of the island, so pack accordingly. We asked for kayaks and kayaked back to the resort which was just great! We felt like we were on the Amazing Race. (This is the resort where the Bowling Moms were eliminated in Amazing Race Season 5.) We also went to another island for snorkeling which was ok. At midnight on New Year's Eve there were fireworks. We were so jetlagged that we woke up to them, but it lasted a good five to ten minutes.

During our stay, it was very busy, so excursion choices were more scheduled than I would have expected and not every excursion was offered everyday.

All in all, we would go back, but would stay longer to enjoy the variety of things to do and too really decompress.

It was our first trip to El Nido, although we have been to other parts of Palawan. We stayed for 4 days and 3 nights in March, just as summer is beginning in the Philippines. Riding a 19 seater plane was fun, better than what I thought or feared since I have fear of heights. You get to the resort by large comfortable outriggers creating the island feel. We first stayed for the day at Miniloc Resort until our room at Lagen was available. Miniloc is smaller with a true island feel, white sand, native huts, and a great beeach and snorkle just a stone's throw away. We were transferred to Lagen and this was more like Four Seasons meets Palawan. The concrete cottages in the forest and on the water, the nice pool and air conditioned clubhouse. We had a room in the forest, then on the beach, and over the water. Our favorite is the beach room becasue it was large and had an excellent view of sunset. THe rooms were modern, and very clean. The staff and the service is more like Ritz Carlton as they cater to your every move and need. They know your every move, anticipating your needs, planning your day and know exactly where you are. The guides were very knowledgeable and very friendly. Divng was great although it was still cold that the waters were a bit murky, visibility was around 89 feet but not clear. We had lunch everyday at the island Pangalusian, a 180 degree view of Bacuit Bay with as much white sand as you can see. I highly recommend you spend your midday, a break between activities at this resort. The food was very good, there was variety every day but I was hoping to have lobster or more local crustaceans but alas, all we had were the crabs and shrimps. Nevetheless, if you were good in mixing and matching your food, it will definitely do. The massage was great at the hut as you watch the sunset amd feel the breeze while you relax inyo submission. The best part was saved for last. I treated my wife to a private dinner (it was extra for $60) on a sandbar. THe ambiance was perfect, with tiki lights surrounding your private table, and the meals were cooked right on the spot. A 5 course meal for this price? You can't get this in Survivor. We left El Nido longing for more and that just means that in the words of one of our heroes, "We Shall Return!". Lagen is a little more costly but if you like the more modern resort, then pick this one. Miniloc is more provincial and that is also a great experience and less costly. It is a matter of preference. Or do both...
