Friendly staff, clean rooms, great brekkie
A short stroll to the main el nido strip but an easy commute with the resort trikes.

My husband and I came to cadlao for our honeymoon. We got the sea view villa and it was worth the extra money to wake up that view every morning. It is a bit far from the town, but the resort offers a free trike service to pick you up and drop you off, its just slightly time consuming. Still, the views, the great food at the restaurant, and the helpful staff make it totally worth it. Would come back again in a heartbeat!

We stayed at 5 different hotels/resorts during our 2.5 week Philippines adventure and Cadlao was by far our favourite. Stunning views and immaculate grounds with two amazing pools. The gardens are lush and the pool areas right on the water are perfect for lounging in all day with a shaded cabana available if you need to escape. Absolute heaven!! Absolute luxury!!

The staff are so helpful and go out of their way to help in any way they can. I was in the process of buying a house while I was at Cadlao and had to print, sign and scan documents back to New Zealand a couple of times which the staff were so patient with. The internet on Palawan is so slow so it was a bit of a painful process for them trying to get the documents to send so I really really appreciate it.

The food is delicious. The complimentary breakfast includes bottomless coffee (and good coffee!) and juice and a huge selection of breakfasts to choose from. Highly recommend the Tocino. Had dinner there one night and although a lot more expensive than the rest of El Nido it was worth it. Yum!

We stayed in a pool superior room which was a good size with the best bathroom we came across on our trip. A proper shower with amazing pressure and hot water which you will definitely appreciate if you had traveled to many other parts of the Philippines like us. Towels were changed regularly. Only improvement would have been a TV and a little fridge. Also free drinking water would be great.

We liked the location about a 10 minute walk from town. El Nido town isn't the nicest so it felt like heaven when we got back to the resort at the end of each day. Definitely recommend getting a trike there as the road is terrible and not good for dragging bags. There is no need to trike to/from the resort for the rest of the trip though- the walk is very manageable and enjoyable.

The only bad thing I have to say is do not use the tour company run by the resort!! We had so much trouble with them. The man booking the tours was very grumpy and unhelpful and made us feel like our business was unwanted. To make matters worse they cancelled our tour on the morning of the tour on our first day after we had had to check out super early from our previous accommodation to get to the tour desk in time for it to start. This then left us stranded with no room until check in in the afternoon. I thought maybe it was a one off but I then booked another tour on my own while my boyfriend went diving and once again they cancelled it 15 mins before it was due to leave. I had to quickly run into town and try and flag down a tour company myself that had not left yet- I was lucky enough to find one when most of them had left. Both the tours we ended up doing were fantastic and much cheaper than at the resort. There are lots of tour companies in town but the one on the walk to town from Cadlao next to the El Nido corner cafe was good and close.

Other than that,we absolutely loved our stay at Cadlao and wished we could have stayed much longer! I think it would have to be in my top few resorts in the whole world. Have recommended to two lots of friends who are visiting later this year and will continue to do so.

Room Tip: Any room looked pretty good!

Have stayed here before but probably won’t go here again. The location and facilities are great but the service has definitely changed since last time. I think the staff and ownership has changed. When we first arrived we did not receive the same welcome as previous times. The quality of food in the restaurant has dropped. Breakfast used to be fantastic but now the quantity as well as the quality of the food has changed. It was an effort to get a menu or service by the pool and it was much easier to go get the drinks yourself.

There is a tricycle service to the town which is supposed to be until 10 PM. We called it at 9.40 PM and we were told its coming to pick us up, but we waited and waited and it never arrived. The most disappointing thing was that they switched off the two telephone numbers after 10 PM and there was no way even to call the security on site to find out if the tricycle was on the way. It was a very scary situation as we were standing by the road until about 10.30 PM. Even some of the local tricycle drivers tried to phone the resort and in the end we had to walk in the dark as the road was not wide enough for the normal tricycles. This was very disappointing and clearly showed lack of attention to guest’s safety.

We booked a private tour through the tour agency that is linked to Cadlao resort but again the service was well below last time. Even though the tour was private the guide insisted that we only have 30 mins in one location and the purpose of paying more for the private tour was exactly for this reason and to have flexibility. At one snorkelling location the guide and boat staff started finishing. This was really disappointing and we had to ask them twice to stop. The private beach and the lunch was great and was the highlight of the tour.

When it was time to leave the disappointments continued. We had arranged to leave early morning at 6 am we were told that there will be no breakfast as the restaurant staff do not open the restaurant until later. This is the only restaurant in my travels in Philippines that has refused to serve food or provide even a packed breakfast ahead of opening time. In most cases people go out of the way to ensure guests are well fed before leaving. After a long discussion with the reception we were asked to go to the restaurant and order sandwiches. We ordered the sandwiches and it was confirmed we can pick it up at 5.50 AM but the next morning when we went to pick it up around 6 AM there was only one staff and the simple answer was that it was closed and no service. As we did not have time to discuss we just left. Then one of the tricycles that was supposed to take us to the town was broken and there was only one tricycle for almost 10 guests. As we were very late we could not wait any longer and we had to carry our bags and walk all the way to the town. The staff did not even offer to help carry the bags and simply left us to figure it out on our own. We had booked a private van the previous night through the reception, after walking with the bags to the town there was no van at the meeting point. We waited and waited and tried to call the resort and there was no answer. In the end we ended up taking a tricycle all the way to the airport. No one even bothered to phone and check if we got to the town ok.

Overall very disappointing and service level has fallen since the last time we were here. The resort has expanded recently and probably a change on ownership as well that has resulted in the poor service. Will definitely not stay here again and will look for other options next time.

I booked for five nights for my family of 14 people based on a friends recommendation. Cadlao resort didn't disappoint.

We had two family villas and two garden view villas. The resort is intimate with a limited number of villas. The rooms had lovely modern Filipino decor. They don't however, have TV's or fridges, and it's because they pride themselves on being eco-friendly. Each villa has a covered alfresco area, that we enjoyed one afternoon during a summer storm. There are two pool areas surrounded by sun umbrellas and pool chairs, and the gardens were gorgeous and well maintained.

Cadlao restaurant was just as impressive. The complimentary breakfast options were extensive and the serving sizes were huge. We had dinner here every single night, and every single dish tasted AMAZING. Joanne was a lovely waitress and checked on our group frequently. They even kept a long table for us during our entire stay, which we really appreciated. We definitely drank our share of cocktails and San Miguel beer, which was mostly consumed near the pool closest to the bar.

Every afternoon was an experience, with my family reunited from around the world, the kids splashing in the pool, drinks in hand watching one of the best sunsets in the world.

We booked three tours through JB Benito Tours - Tour A, Tour C and the Inland tour. El Nido is truly a beautiful part of the Philippines. Our guides were friendly and informative. Special mention goes to Dominic and Albert. The highlight of our island tours was the cooked lunch at the secluded beach owned by Cadlao. Not only is there a beautiful coral reef with colorful fish, the beach only had guests of the resort on it. Lunch always consisted of a large fish (usually snapper), BBQ chicken, pork, mussels and calamari, rice, artistically presented salad and a huge fruit platter. The lunch was incredible on all three tours.

Access to the resort is not for the faint hearted. Access is via motorized tricycle only, but the resort does provide complimentary transport two way from the main town. The path is narrow and at times quite scary, but it all contributed to the El Nido adventure. My family and I created such wonderful memories at Cadlao resort and we would definitely come back again. The French owner and his Filipino wife take great pride in their resort, and so they should.
