On our 16 day trip in the Phillipp we stopped for 4 days in El Nido. This sailing experience was the best activity that we did in the Philippines and certainly in El Nido. Compared to the overcrowded Tour A Tour (we even had a semi privat tour A but still had share the beaches with up to 10 boats each loaded with 10-20 passengers), sailing was by far the better alternative!

After 90 minutes of sailing introduction (I had some experience but my girlfriend none) we managed all the sailing easily. Our first stop let go a small island with a beautiful beach and only a handful of people there. After enjoying some snorkeling and freshly delivered sandwiches we head for Snake Island were we also spend the night.

After arriving at our destination we refreshed with some good coconut drinks at the floating bar before we crossed the sand bank to the cozy “Mangrove Paradise” (a family nicely decorated this place next to their house with garden house, bbq site, hammock etc). The team already had mounted our tent and we enjoyed some good barbecue and drinks in the evening. While both of us are not used to camping we managed the bucket shower and the night in the tent fairly well.

Getting up early the next morning we enjoyed a nice sun rise on the low tide sand bank and had fruit and rolls for breakfast. Unfortunately we had bad luck with the wind this morning. But the owner Oswin felt very responsible so we boarded his Zodiac and he towed our catamaran to the next sites. We therefore managed to see two hidden caves and a lonely beach that we enjoyed just the two of us while waiting for the wind to reappear. Oswin predicted wind for noon so he left us again to fetch lunch.

After chilling and dining in the island we there sailed back to our starting point and were more than happy that we decided for this adventure. Thanks a lot to Oswin and the crew of sail El Nido for creating such a nice experience.

We decided on an adventure with El Nido Sailing for a way to enjoy the beautiful islands of Bacuit Bay without the crowds of the general tourist boat tours, and also to push our comfort zones learning to sail together! Oswen was amazing and paid careful attention to every detail of our trip. He is very experienced in teaching the basics of sailing to 2 beginners and taught us to sail the catamaran independently through to 3 different islands. We had an incredible 2 days and it was a highlight of our time in the Philippines! We would highly recommend this amazing company and thank you again for helping us have the adventure of a lifetime! First of all its an amazing experince and the team are great , the sail it self was super fun and this is was one of the best days on our trip.
I would to give a few tips for those who want to do this sail , the boat itself is very simple to handle as long you have a basic understaings of sailing, if not arrive early and take the course.
The sailboat is a small catamaren . it means that in order to change tacks you need to be fast with good wind or just turn downwind. it is advice to know that you would usually leave on high tide and return in low tide .. so you may meet some rocks on your way back , build a coure for the return in your mind and pay attention to the beach and mountain at the back to better plan your return or use a simple GPS, there is a red flag that points the best route in and out , it hard to spot from distance so take reffrence to the overall beach view.

the wind is good untill 1500 in march april and you should ask on the wind once you start your sail to better plan your time , the boat is 3-6 Knots so plan according to 4 knots speed.

also ask untill when the service boat is availbale , as in low tide the service boat may be grounded on the beach.

i hope it will help you to plan and prepare for the sail in a fun and safe way and enjoy this amazing experience.
