My husband and I decided to stay at Dolarog beach resort because we were enchanted by the beauty of nature surrounded this place as seen in pictures. Despite negative feedback, we carefully went thru those reviews to find out the cons about this place so we can prepare for the worst.

After spending 2 nights, we enjoyed our stay and didn't regret for choosing this resort. It is because we love the serenity and nature which are the main attraction and for that, we were able to tolerate with the downside of the resort. However, comparing with the negative points which i had read, it does has some improvements.

My conclusion is all about preference. If you are looking for luxury, then this resort is not for you. But if you're nature lover and looking for a calm place to stay, where at the same time don't care so much about comfort, you may try staying here. The rate offered was quite overpriced and not matching with the room conditions.

We paid 167 Euros per night. Check pros and cons I listed below.

Pros

- The front beach resort is absolutely beautiful with crystal clear sea water and greenery.
- Peaceful and calm.
- Free return boat transfer. (the resort is only accessible by boat)
- Breakfast and dinner included.
- Dinner was delicious and variety. We had beef, chicken, fish, prawn and some veggies and fruits.
- Free island hoping for minimum stay of 2 nights.
- There are water activities equipments provided etc. snorkeling, kayak and diving.
- There is a seawater swimming pool.
- There are some sports equipments etc. badminton, table tennis and biliard.
- Staff are friendly and very helpful.

Cons

- There is no signage to indicate direction to this resort. Even google map has given wrong direction. We soon realised that the Dolarog beach resort was wrongly marked in google map. You must be very 'skillful' to find this place. We rented a car from Puerto Princesa and drove for 5 hours to El Nido town.

- There is no information in their official website to indicate that, guests need to get a boat transfer from the Corong corong beach behind wet market El Nido. 'Getting There' information in their website is up to taking bus from Puerto Princesa to El Nido only. No further info that you must take a boat to reach the resort.

- No jetty when you want to get on to the boat from Corong corong beach.

- Limited electricity. Only available from 6pm-4.30am and 10am-12pm.

- We stayed at Garden room - very basic. No aircond, only fan. There are only 1 double bed and 2 side tables, 1 rack. nothing else. No hot water. Average mattress. But we paid 167 EUROS per night. Room condition is like a budget guest house room.

- There is ONLY 1 power point socket which meant for the fan. If you're 2 people and with the electricity limitation, you may need to have an extension to charge the phones.

- Breakfast is very simple which you have to choose from the set menu. It is better if they could provide as a buffet breakfast so we could refill our coffee whenever we want.

To the management of Dolarog beach resort, here are my suggestions to improve your accommodation quality.

- Pls upgrade the garden rooms. Make those rooms pleasant instead of budget looking rooms. Your price is way too high for such room condition.
- Pls upgrade your sport equipments/game/gym room. Many equipments are obsolete and no longer in good condition.
- Breakfast should be more variety, preferably buffet style.
- Supply one more power point socket or at least an extension.
- Pls update your official website with detailed information about how to reach the resort including an information regarding boat transfer.

Located on a remote beach with a breath-taking view. Ideal for small children as sea water is very shallow. Transport to and from El Nido by boat (bit pricey), 30 min beach-walk away from tricycle station which can take you to El Nido. Good restaurant and Italian wine celllar goods available for purchase. Available: a sea pool, reading room,TV /DVD room, pool-table/games room and small gym. Food served at restaurant is combination of Italian and Philipinese cousine. There is electricity/WI-FI restriction to few hours /day. Rooms equiped with ceiling fans and A/C. Tones of seashells to collect at beach as souvenirs but beware. Big ones will be confiscated at airport!

Room Tip: Definitely go for a beach-front cabin

Stayed one night at the end of a stunning holiday in & around El Nido. Was expecting the worst after some reviews but was (relatively) pleasantly surprised.

First things first - yes it's basic, and probably more basic than the cost would lead you to expect. The rooms have slats instead of windows, no hot water (in our room anyway) and limited electricity but it actually gave us a feeling of being close to nature, like a very expensive version of camping.

Transport via speedboat was efficient and pleasant. The resort staff we found to be friendly and very helpful, but extremely overstretched. If they employed 1-2 more people the experience could be so much better.

Had dinner and breakfast. Dinner was OK, taste-wise, but certainly nothing to shout about. Waited about an hour to get any food at all though, while other tables had several courses delivered, we then ended up with everything at once. Breakfast selection was fine but service was again patchy.

Overall though we enjoyed the space - superior garden cottage - and the basic nature of the resort. Secluded on an almost private beach, with a show-stopping sunset, a lovely 20 min walk to find a bar and activities (zip line, massages), and things to keep you occupied like pool & table tennis, it was a fine end to our trip. Just don't expect value for money or real 'resort' amenities.

After spending most of our trip in some hotel that or not that nice, we wanted to spend our 2 last nights in a good one. The pictures aren't lying, the place is really beautiful. The rooms are good. Except you have hot water for your first shower only. The Windows are some pieces of woods, so every moskitos in need of blood will come inside. This is the good part of this hotel.
Now, the staff isn't smiling. If you dare asking one question, it seems like you disturb them, if you are lucky these will answer. The breakfast is ok, but don't except to have a fresh juice included. Why use those incredible fruits they have in Philippines when you have it in a can. The lunch is ok but expensive. At dinner, you have a set menu for everyone. You don't know what you eat except if you ask. The dinner goes fast, in an hour everybody has done eating. If you change something on the menu, you have extra charge. And as you are far from everything you have to eat here (dinner included in the price) or ask for a speedboat to go somewhere else and it has a cost. When you ask them if they think all this is normal, they say that nobody complain until me...
Si, as I said, keep your money, even for a horrible room in else nido, at least you could choose where you eat and where you go on the day.

After reading extreme mixed reviews of this hotel, my husband & I were nervous to stay here, so we cut down our original 4 night stay to 1 night. We thought it would be a pretty poor experience due to some of the bad reviews we read, however we were decently surprised by most of our experience. We arranged for the hotel's private speedboat to take us to the hotel, which was easy enough and a pretty ride. We arrived on the dock and the property manager greeted us right away and took us to our room (hut). The room was clean enough, but definitely more rugged than a 'normal' hotel room. If you can picture upscale camping, that it what the room is like. The windows are slats that open, with no screens and there are small cracks in the wood plank floors - all of which allow for mother nature's crawly friends to come join you in your room. The bathroom was large and clean and the bed was comfortable enough. It was charming, as long as you are in the mind frame that you are not expecting a 5 star stay. The grounds were beautiful. The pool, library, dining and beach area were very pretty - much nicer than the photos I saw online. The resort ONLY has power from 6pm-11pm (I think).. so you do need to be aware of that. For dinner, there was assigned seating and it was a prefixed meal where there was NO room for customization. This was probably my biggest issue with the hotel is that they never asked about special dietary restrictions (I don't eat meat and my husband doesn't eat seafood), but we were told that we were not allowed to deviate from the planned menu and we barely ate a thing. When I told the waitress I did not eat meat, she recommended the lentil soup. I started eating it - only to find out halfway through there was meat in it! Anyways... we left dinner hungry and there is nothing else around so we were hungry all night. They don't have a bar, only a small cellar where you can purchase a bottle of wine or bottle of liquor, which was fine. The staff was so-so... I think the biggest issue was that no one spoke english too well. Breakfast was much better than dinner and they made special accommodations to serve us early since we were leaving the resort so early. My overall review is that the space is beautiful, however the food and service were sub-par. I didn't regret staying one night, however, I am really glad we did not stay 4 nights. I think it is overpriced, but they have potential to polish up the customer experience a bit, where they will then be able to rightfully command the price they charge.
