“Great dinner in Jakarta”
Reviewed 5 January 2012

Awesome meal, but the service could be better. The food here is absolutely wonderful, and I'm never disappointed no matter what I order. Last night our party of four was ready to order dessert and coffee, but it took so long for the waiter to get back to our table that we decided against it. The staff are very polite and helpful, but it seems they just need more people working. Don't let this keep you from trying out the restaurant, however. Just make sure you have plenty of time and patience when you go.

“Not bad, but coffee could do with improvement”
Reviewed 1 January 2012

We had lunch here whilst visiting Jakarta. Service was ok - nothing terrible, nothing remarkable. They seem incapable of providing a caffe latte at a drinkable temperature - either they're far too hot, or they're too cold (although we had a whole week of eating tepid food, so perhaps it was good to have extremes for a change).

Portions are a good size - one of us made the mistake of ordering both a goats cheese salad and a sandwich; the sandwich was an adequate size, the salad was utterly enormous. (Perhaps our server should have pointed this out, or else he just thought we were gourmands ready to chow down.) There's a good range of different dishes (think Italian/fusion) and the desserts and drinks were delicious. In particular, try out the beet/carrot/orange juice (much better than expected) and the berry crumble.

One thing I didn't like much is that there's both smoking and non-smoking sections to the restaurant. But I suppose I'm accustomed to the West, where smoking is largely banned; Indonesians seem quite happy being able to light up a post-prandial cigarette. Something to consider if you're not keen on nicotine - but possibly inescapable in most of Jakarta.

“Nice trendy restaurant”
Reviewed 10 December 2011

Nice trendy restaurant with great European and Asian food. From Belgium fries to Nasi Goreng. Nice atmosphere also for kids. Funny thing is... all the furniture your sitting on, is for sale on the 2nd floor. This will be my fav restaurant in Kemang.

“Great spot to hang out with friends and/or family”
Reviewed 17 November 2011

We visited Koi for early dinner on a Saturday and for early morning coffee on a Sunday.

For dinner we arrived around 6.30pm and had a table with comfy couches on both sides, ideal with children. They have an extensive Western menu and some local dishes. Apparently the local fare is not recommended, therefore we brought in the steak with baked potato and blue cheese sauce. My medium rare steak was done really good and so was the potato, although the dollop of sour cream was very small for a large potato.
The steak tartare my husband ordered was not the best I tasted but edible and nicely served with lovely French fries. The burger was fine too. And they served creamy spinach which is a fond eating memory from my students years....lovely!
The kids had noodles which had some large pieces of green leaves in it which is not really appreciated by kids.

We decided to order some desserts as well since the pavlova looked really good. Unfortunately the pavlova had been sitting in the oven too long and it turned light brown on the inside. The chef should have thrown away this batch as you can't serve it to your customers.
It was served with overly whipped cream instead of lobed cream, fruit sauce instead of fresh fruit and 2 scoops of ice-cream which should not be served with pavlova.

Coffee is good though and served in large coffee cups therefore we returned the next morning and had a juice and a Liege waffle to go with it.
Juice had too much ice and the waffle had a funny taste to it. Was not the best waffle I had.

Having said that, Koi has a really nice interior with tables, couches, dim lightning and some al fresco space as well. It is definitely a great place to hang out and have simple, though hearty fare.
If you are around, do go in although they can be quiet busy as it is a popular spot. Also visit the gallery upstairs which has some nice accessories and furniture

“Love this place”

Very chic, modern, casually elegant establishment with outstanding food. I love their cheese soufflé and their rhubarb cobbler a la mode.
