A free weekend in the winter months saw myself and a friend take a day out to Lamma Island.
Its about a 30 minute ferry ride from Central.
The Island has a number of beaches, a distinctive power station and great walking tracks around the beaches and cliff tops.
The views were very good and while the water was too cold to swim, the weather was sunny and bracing.
A great spot finishing up with a beer before the ferry back to Central.

You can hike there or just relax on the beach. A good alternative if you want to escape the city. It's only 30 min away by ferry from HK Station.

You don’t need to book a tour. Take a ferry from the Outlying Island Piers in Central and it is a very pleasant walk (no equipment needed) from one side of the island to the other. Take in a seafood meal before taking the ferry back to Hong Kong Island

I would highly recommend a trip to Lamma island if you are in Hong Kong. It's a short 30 minutes ferry ride from HK ferry port to a choice of 2 destination on the island. We choose to to go to Yung Shue Wan ferry port on the Lamma island then walk across the island and pick up the ferry back to HK from Sok kwu Wan.

The walk across the island were quite easy since it was paved all the way and pleasant with rest points alone the way. With a leisurely step the walk itself took just over 2 hours but could easily take 1.5 hours in a quicker steps.

We stopped over in the tofu garden and tried the famous Ah Por Tofu Fa (Tofu Custard). Overall the round trip was just over 4 hours.

Easy to get to from Hong Kong harbour, about a 30min boat ride. There are many hiking trails and beaches on Lamma Island, well worth more than a day trip. We weren't planning on doing the hike up to Ling Kok Shan, but DEFINITELY worth the hike! Keep it mind it may be hard for those not used to hiking as there are a lot of stairs. Great views of Hong Kong's high rises from Lamma Island. The water and beaches are also very clean and clear.
