Owner description: This historic street market on the city's serene south coast is as popular with locals as it is with tourists. Go here for souvenirs like lacquerware, embroidered tablecloths, prints and paintings.

We took a taxi from city center. A long way more than 130 H K $ one way. The market itself s less than being famous. Shopping at this market s not so attractive.
Next day we were interested for shopping in the city with a greater variety and better prices.
Anyhow we won the taxi journey to see the magnificent bay with green mountains and high towers emerging through to the sky.

Ok so the market isn't as good as the other markets such as ladies or night.
We stayed in Kowloon on Nathan Road so it was one heck of a bus trip too.
The location is fab, right on the beech and there's some nice restaurants and shops on the beech front.
The market itself is nice, they don't haggle as much as they do in the other markets but some will still haggle though only a little bit.

A bit of variety such as electronics and clothes.

Having reviewed Stanley itself, this deals mostly with the market. Much smaller than I anticipated, but nicely laid out and super clean and people most friendly. More art that I expected and some neat stuff and enjoyed looking at that. In fact got hooked in on a few items and sellers were quick to cut prices even before we started to bargain.

All covered for the most part so on a rainy day, it wasn't the end of the world.

Picked a local restaurant to eat just behind the first row of stalls, can't remember name but I think it mentioned Thai food and very good and more than reasonable . Wait staff very cool and all dressed in black and super large portions.

Walked along the coast front, to Murray House, and part of new mall, a bit confusing in layout. Some upscale trendy restaurants, but glad we picked the one we did.

The a short walk back to the bus and the trip back to the north side of Hong Kong island.

A day trip worth taking and if in Hong Kong, and time, I feel a must.

We visited here with not a lot of expectation but was pleasantly surprised. We enjoyed walking the aisles negotiating for purchases. There not a great deal to do but there’s many places to stop and get a cold drink and a spot of lunch. Worth the visit if you want a day packed with less to do.

I went to Stanley market as part of a tour and we also took in the peak. I did not have high expectations but enough stalls and shops to look and negotiate pricing - Stanley itself is new with a prom, new mini shopping centre was really nice to spend a couple of hours but no more.
