Owner description: The museum has been closed for around three years for a major renovation and expansion project, beginning 3 August 2015. By 2019, we will herald a brand new look to Tsim Sha Tsui.

Had the fortune to visit the museum on the last day before it closed for renovation.

It was set up in different floors as per various themes. The use of audio visuals with large screens to create an artistic effect should be lauded.

Personally I liked the modern art section and the section where recordings from various places in day to day life in Hong Kong keep playing on. It is a different experience to find art in these videos.

Hoping that they bring out better and bigger show when they reopen post the renovation.

Added this to my itinerary only to go there and find its closed till 2019. However the signs and the website couldn't have been less clear. I wasn't the only one to make the mistake either. Very disappointed

We were interested in going to the museum and we're disappointed to find it now closed for some considerable time - it would have been helpful for the tourist office had advised us.

We made a special trip to this museum as we love art & the weather was wet. Got there to find the place is being renovated until 2019!!
No tourist website mentions this & we weren't the only people disappointingly hanging around outside in the rain!

Last Summer the Hong Kong Museum of Art temporarily closed its doors to visitors as it enters a long period of major renovation and expansion works.

At present there is not a definite reopening date but it will likely be Summer 2019 or later before visitors can enjoy the main Hong Kong Museum of Art museum at the Tsim Sha Tsui Promenade again.

During the interim, visitors can still visit the Hong Kong Museum of Art - Flagstaff House and Teaware Museum at Hong Kong Park.

Additionally, the museum intends to continue to provide exhibitions and to make some of the permanent collection available for viewing at various venues around Hong Kong and overseas. However, there is no exhibition schedule on their website as of yet. This will likely change in the next year or so.

If you want to read or learn more about the Museum Transformation project, simply visit the Hong Kong Museum of Art Museum website which remains running and functional.
