City Garden Hotel Hong Kong

there is nothing negative at all I can say about the City Garden Hotel. I arrived way too early yet the check-in-staff did everything to hand over the room to me as soon as possible. The room had a more than decent size, full bathroom ameneties, there is free WIFI and free DSL internet in the room, the tv is a flat screen, the minibar is well stocked. 2 free bottles of water. The only thing missing was a hairdryer and a bathrobe.
Also the location is superb, a 3 minute walk from the nearest MTR station. There is a free shuttle bus offered by the hotel to local attractions and a free shuttle bus every 20 minutes to the Airport-Express train station. I was feeling good inside and had easy access anywhere, makes it sort of perfect place for me. Exceptionally friendly staff, too.

We booked here last minute over New Year's Eve (incidentally the hotel's own website matches the deals advertised on hotel booking websites so it is worth checking them out because they allow you to select double instead of twin and smoking or non-smoking). We stayed in the room category one up from Basic and the rooms were a really nice size for Hong Kong. They were also clean and well-maintained. The beds initially felt quite hard but they were actually very comfortable and I slept great on them (and I'm a bad sleeper). In the category of rooms we were staying in there was free wifi (you needed your room no and date of birth to check into) and it worked great.

First night we were in room 1 on our floor- rooms 1 and 26 (I think) are right by the lift shafts. As it is a huge hotel with lots of rooms on 20ish floors, the lifts never really stop and you can hear the noise- we asked for a room change the next morning and they had no problem doing that and happily moved our stuff whilst we were out and about. The new room was amazingly quiet and so that was very nice. Staff throughout the stay were always very willing to help, they were incredibly efficient with check in and check out. Reception are all fluent in English, which is obviously helpful as a Brit!

The hotel is in Fortress Hill, which is a bit boring but the hotel is only a couple of minutes walk from the metro (quick and cheap) and there is a 24 hour cornershop less than 30 seconds from the front door where you can buy water/snacks etc (minibar is as usual very expensive). The airport bus (A70 or something) has a bus stop named City Garden which is right by it, so it is very easy to access from the airport (there is a shuttle bus but why pay for it when the airport bus does such a good service).

Hong Kong is not a cheap city so you won't find (nice) bargain basement accommodation. This was discounted by about 45%; not sure if I would have thought it was such good value for money if it were full price but I get the feeling what with the size of the hotel that there are always some deals going on. Would definitely stay there again if I were going back.

Room Tip: Avoid rooms 1 and 26 to avoid lift noise!

We found the City Garden to be a clean, good quality hotel, with helpful staff, good sized (for Hong Kong) rooms and a nice breakfast buffet all in a suburban, but not inconvenient location.

Having previously stayed at the Metropark Causeway Bay, the rooms at City Garden were noticeably larger, yet still clean and tidy with an LCD TV offering a range of English language and local TV channels. We paid extra for a “usb broadband stick” to be provided with the room, but weren’t given anything except for access to wi-fi in the room, which was perfectly acceptable.

As with most places in Hong Kong, the customer service was excellent. We were given an area map upon checkin and promptly had our luggage taken to our room.

The next day, we were still jetlagged from a flight from London, so left the electronic “do not disturb” light on the door, but room service still took the trouble to phone us later in the afternoon to ask whether we’d like the room cleaned. When it came time to check out, we had a late night flight and staff were happy to extend our use of the room by two hours at no extra charge.

The included breakfast was good, offering a mix of western and Chinese choices and served in a restaurant which also does lunch and dinner buffets, although at HK$220 per person I was glad it was included in the room rate.

The location of the hotel is convenient, being only a 5 minute walk from the Fortress Hill MTR station. Nearby the station is a large Wellcome brand supermarket, as well as a Burger King, McDonalds, Starbucks and Subway. Keep in mind North Point isn’t a touristy area, although we didn’t have any problems with locals speaking not speaking English.

Immediately next to the hotel is a 24 hour convenience store, a smaller Wellcome brand supermarket and a Mannings pharmacy. There’s also a taxi rank at the hotel entrance so it’s easy to quickly get a taxi if you need one.

Overall, although I preferred the Metropark Causeway Bay, City Garden was a good alternative and I would recommend staying there if the Metropark isn’t available.

Booked this room with the airline package and was glad that I made the right choice. Just like any metropolitan cities of the world, Hong Kong is well connected will various transportation and this hotel is no exception. You can try the tram for HK$1 to go to center Hongkong, a subway, buses, and taxi. Laundromat mart, convenient store, Mc Donald, and local eatery stores are all around the hotel. The morning walk which is less than 5 minutes will take you to the pier, with the expansive view of both Hong Kong and Kowloon city. Just asked the conceirge for direction.
Go for premium room as you have a 3 seater sofa right next to the window,(even with no view). Good security and clean line and sufficient toiletries.
I do hope to stay here next time.

Room Tip: for a little extra, go for premier room.

I stayed here with my daughter having spent a month travelling around China. It was an expensive treat after staying in hostel but we were not disappointed.

The rooms are large we had twin beds which were so comfortable and had TWO of the biggest loveliest pillows each. We slept really well and didn't have noise problems others say about. We had view of other buildings but hey its a view I don't have at home . Big bathroom too with tub and shower. Hairdryer and tv with programs we could watch in English.

We didn't eat here so can't comment.

Round the corner for mrt which is cheap and key transport.

Loved our stay, staff were really nice and rooms were made up every day.
