My teen son and I went to Hong Kong on a stopover home from China. I think we were a little spoilt in China with the markets, range of good and the willingness to negotiate prices. Fa Yuen had limited range of goods, the quality was not as good as I had previously seen in China, Vietnam and Thailand.

This is a market for locals to get fruits, nuts, vegtables, fish (live & prepared), meats, live chickens and the occasional material possesion. Imagine the most packed club/bar you've ever been in except there are people in wheel chairs, others pulling totes with their buys of the day who may not be moving. If you don't handle crowds stay away. But make no doubt this place IS cool. It is their market, how they live, how they shop...

We walked to Mong Kok and found the streets jammed with hordes of locals and a fair few tourists. The market is vast and very 'genuine'. if you want t-shirts, electricals, buckets of live frogs, fruit, veg, live fish, sea food, meat etc this is the place. If you just want to come and gawp this is also the place. AN amazing glimpse into real Hong Kong.

This street is home to a couple of city blocks on street markets, along with speciality shops on either side. Found some good prices for luggage here amongst the usual souveniers

Many stalls now stocking for upcoming Chinese New Year.

Lots of decorating materials and lots of special dry foods now available.

Good time to grab some to enjoy if you’re visiting.
