Description: Belon is a neo-Parisian bistro that showcases French-rooted yet locally influenced cooking created with the best available ingredients and well-executed basic. Reminiscent of the dynamic food scene found in Paris’ 11th arrondissement, Belon presents a refreshing genre of French cuisine in a pared-down SoHo space that allows the restaurant’s sincere approach to food to shine.

That mille-feuille! Unfortunately, trip advisor won’t allow me to just say two words. Just take my word for it and come.

Although there may be restaurants in Hong Kong with more press and accolades to their names, you'd be hard-pressed to find a restaurant that serves beautiful, modern French cuisine paired with charismatic service.

From hors d'oeuvres to mains and desserts, each dish is thoughtfully composed, flavourful and surprising. Certain highlights include the pigeon pithivier (aka medium-rare pigeon baked beautifully in pastry) and the sea urchin puff (a delicate marriage between Japanese flavours and French techniques).

As the restaurant truly sources the finest produce from Japan/Europe and locally, you can be sure that the food served is of the utmost quality. You also won't find ingredients on the menu when they're off-season/not of quality.

During my last visit, the stand-out dish was the chocolate tart with cream - an extremely satisfying (but not cloying rich as chocolate desserts can be) way to finish the meal. The finesse of the dessert is a testament to the restaurant's menu - deceptively simple dishes that will bowl you over. Too often do I find myself dining at restaurants in this city that charge me a couple hundred dollars for mediocre food - it's certainly not the case here.

Favorite place in Hong Kong! We keep going back because the spot is so versatile, great for family/ friends gatherings, work events and dates! Love the experience every time - everyone is incredibly friendly and knowledgeable - the chef Daniel is amazing and you want to savor everything he sends out that kitchen. The upstairs is the best for a cosy setting with flawless cocktails and great wine list. so delicious, go go go!

Grossly overpriced food - $178 for a tiny piece of marinated sardine in crispbread!
Wines also outrageously overpriced

Dear jcs269,

We’re sorry to read your comments.

We only use the best quality premium products in BELON, inspired by market availability which reflects in our price point. Our Smoked Sardine with Horseradish is actually HK$68 per portion so we are a little confused by your comment. We would like to further discuss your experience and would appreciate it if you could reach out to our Guest Relations Manager Roxy at roxy@blacksheeprestaurants.com.

We gave it the benefit of the doubt after our last visit but.....it was the same. Very friendly service, very nice food but... hugely overpriced both food/wine and the service, tho friendly, is more interested in selling than serving! When I phoned to book we were told we could be “squeezed in at 9pm” - we arrived 10 minutes early to a restaurant that was 2/3rds empty and never filled beyond that. We were advised to order more starters rather than a big main course (more money of course). We were told the whole chicken would be too big for us (as it was meant for 3-4). When the chicken arrived ONE AND A HALF HOURS LATER(!) it was tiny and clearly not sufficient for more than 2. While we sat for an hour after our starters waiting for our main course the chef was out front chatting with all his mates! Then a group of Japanese tourists arrive wanting a drink so they sit them down at the table next to us and start trying to sell them expensive cocktails! Finally the waiter comes out to show us the chicken - then disappears back into the kitchen for another 10 minutes to get it cut up! This could be so much better if they spent as much time on the service as the selling and were a bit more “honest” about the food.

Dear Mark M,

We’re very disappointed to read your comments.

At BELON we use only the highest quality of ingredients, making all dishes to order from scratch. Our Roasted Chicken serves 3-4 guests and does take almost an hour to cook and rest, so we always advise guests to order starters as well to ensure they have the best possible experience with us.

We are privileged to have many regular guests join us, whom Chef Daniel greets in person, and we apologise if you felt this was not appropriate.

We would very much like to discuss your experience with you further and would appreciate it if you could contact our Guest Relations Director Lyndsay on lyndsay@blacksheeprestaurants.com.

We hope that we hear from you in the near future.

Yours sincerely,

Leon
