The hotels is basic Chinese hotel. Staff is very friendly, not so good in English, but friendliness and (okay) service make up a lot.
Beds are a bid hard, but when you're tired, you will not notice.
Breakfast is good enough.

Best thing about the hotel : it's in the right location. within walking distance a hutong, 2 parks and lots of restaurant in the street to go to. Try going to a restaurant where only young Chinese are eating and there is no English menu....., you will get a great experience and just good food.

Hence the location of the hotel, just North of the palace etc. it great.

I stayed here last year for a week on a study trip. The hotel is very basic, but in an excellent location. Staff indeed speak very little english, but are very friendly and willing to help.
The rooms are quite spacious and light. The beds have a very thin mattress and are quite hard. I personally did not have a problem with it, but some of my fellow travellers did. The rooms are kept clean on a daily basis, but there is a faint sense of smoking (although this could be the smog) and it is not spotless. I would therefore not recommend this for a couples trip.
The breakfast is alright, but is of course very Chinese. Don't expect an English breakfast here. They do have eggs and roles and try the noodles. They are actually not bad in the morning. The restaurant is another matter. It is very northern China oriented and has many dishes that are quite adventurous but bland in taste (boiled chicken feet, fried jellyfish etc). For us this was not an issue due to the many excellent restaurants in the neighbourhood.
The location is excellent with many bars and restaurants nearby, and a subway station that can take you to the best spots in Beijing. I had a good time here.

Room tip: Ask for a room towards the back of the property. It provides a better view than the parking lot in the front. And the sun comes up on the back side (if it can penetrate the smog).

Stayed in a twin bed room for 2 nights. The hotel was very old and thus there was a musky and cigarette smoke odour lingering throughout the 2 days. The hotel was not built along the main road and thus taxis were not willing to drive to the front of the hotel. Service was found lacking as the staff was not very helpful in certain errands example calling up taxis for airport transfer and calling up the room when luggage was delivered from airport.

Cost is low and location was excellent as it was near to some of the Beijing most famous tourist spots.

Where do I start? I don't expect people in China to speak English but a little would be helpful for front desk hotel staff. The beds were like small stone slabs. A friend called (on an internal hotel number) for a foot massage and instead had two prostitutes come to his room within 10 minutes of arriving. Jackhammers and load dropping of rocks into metal bins in the middle of the night were the norm. The breakfast offering was pretty ordinary, although the noodles and eggs as well as some of the asian greens were OK. The only 'juice' they had was orange powdered 'Tang' style. The tea was terrible. However the location near Hu Tong was amazing and it made the whole visit worthwhile. If they could improve the beds, tidy upa bit and improve the breakfast offerings, it could well be worth a stay.

Room tip: Choose another hotel? Maybe the nearby Youth Hostel?

We stayed in this hotel from 24 to 30 June 2012. Hotel Qilu we liked.
We booked into this hotel for 2 double rooms. Cost for 6 nights the two rooms was a - 4 416 yuan. When we got the numbers, we paid 5 000 yuan (with the account of the Deposit). When we left the hotel, the Deposit is fully refunded.
We arrived in the hotel an hour and a half before the official time check out. Despite this, room is been given immediately.
Went in the room and found the lack of: personal safes, and a lack of ashtrays (rooms ordered for smokers). On the door of one of the rooms were sign «no smoking». Went down to the reception and complained to the employees of the hotel. All the shortcomings were immediately eliminated. To the rooms were brought ashtrays. Then came the hotel staff, they brought safes, conducted a detailed briefing on their use. Staff in English said almost nothing; we communicate with them using pictures and hand gestures. I want to say good words about the staff of the hotel Qilu. All the hotel staff was very friendly, attentive and helped us decided any question. They are very badly speak in English, but very trying.

About the room: One our room was overlooking the inner yard, second on the street. The Rooms are small, without balcony, but very cosy.
Bathroom: bath and WC - small. In the bath every day put, for the replacement of used or opened new: soap, disposable toothbrushes with tube of toothpaste, combs.
In rooms two beds (mattresses are hard, but we slept very well on them) a standard complete set of hotel furniture.
Dressing table beside the mirror is used as a computer. On the table is the computer (this is the computer, the monitor, keyboard, mouse), free Internet. Interface in Chinese, so we had to use the keys. When not able to access the Internet again addressed at the reception. Question quickly decided and access to the Internet gave us. Internet speed is not high, but quite sufficient for checking email, browsing the weather, news, etc.
There is a complete set of stationery in each room. This is a very convenient. In many systems of booking, this hotel is positioned as a business hotel.
There are accessories for tea in the rooms (electric kettle, cups with saucers, green and herbal tea). Drinking water was put every day for two half liter bottles in the room.
On the floor in the room is laid carpeting. I don't like the carpet in hotels, because I think it is not hygienic. But there are a one-off slippers in each room, and carpet - not a problem.
Cleaned every day is good. Coming in the room in the evening, we have always found the room very clean and tidy.

Every day the hotel staff brought a fresh newspaper and an invitation to breakfast. We took the invitations when we went for breakfast and gave them to the employee of the restaurant.
On the first day, when we returned to the hotel after a long walk, we had a pleasant surprise; in each room was a plate of fruit.
The restaurant where we had breakfast is large. It is located on the first floor, behind the reception. The breakfasts were normal. It is buffet. We were never hungry. In the buffet there are: always fried eggs (make a cook), fruit, fresh chopped vegetables, fresh cucumbers and tomatoes, potato fries, boiled corn, bacon, poultry, pasta and and an absolutely beautiful buns (similar to donuts). Buffet was rather large, but a lot of products which were not familiar or with a strange taste.
When we came the first time to have breakfast, it was found out, that the usual mess utensils (spoons, forks) are not available. We had to ask for help from the administrator of the restaurant (they have their own separate stand) and to ask us the necessary cutlery. In the English staff did not understand, so we have drawn the necessary things on paper. After that the necessary cutlery, quickly found, and during our stay at the hotel, forks, spoons and knives have always been ready for us. The location of the hotel. We were looking for a hotel, which corresponds to the simple requirements: proximity to the center of Beijing (historical part), proximity to the metro and the availability of Breakfast. About breakfasts have already written.
Location Qilu fully meet our requirements.
1. The hotel is located near the Northern gate of Beihai Park in a residential area. The fence of the Park is visible at once, how to get out of the hotel, and go into the street DiAnMen.. The hotel is not directly on the street, and in the inner yard (before him stood an office building), so the noise of the street the in the hotel is not heard.
2. The nearest metro stop Ping'anli is located to the West from the hotel, we got to her for 15 minutes.
3. Near the hotel there is a Bank, where you can change the currency. If you go out of the hotel on the street DiAnMen and turn left, go 2 minutes, there is a Bank - China Construction Bank. Bank employees speak a little English, and exchange procedure takes 5-10 minutes.
When we lived in this hotel, the contingent of visitors consisted of only the Chinese.
To tell the truth, we liked the hotel Qilu. In the subsequent trip to Beijing with pleasure will stop exactly in this hotel.
