Well worth climbing up here for the view. There are 3 different look outs along coal hill. The very peak overlooking the forbidden city and beihai park. From the rear of the forbidden city you can see the symmetry in the positioning of the 3 look outs on coal hill. Got very crowded in the morning when we were there, the steps are a similar height and there are many, but they arent very high. There would have been 6 sets of stairs to get to first lookout then a further 4 to get to the highest point. Lots of walking! The enterance to the stairs wasnt very far from the main enterance to the park.

I'd recommend coming to this beautiful garden where it is substantially less crowded than to go to Forbidden City.

You have ha gorgeous view over the entire Forbidden City and enjoy the serenity without the crowds.

his is right across the street from the exit to the Forbidden City. Go left out the exit and take the steps down to cross under the street. There is a small admission charge of about $5 for two. It is a bit of a hike up to the top, but It was a nice view of the city from the temple. There is an easier climb up on the right hand side of the park which we found on the way down.We enjoyed the park itself, especially the roses. It offers a quiet place to take a break from the crowds.

Lovely to stroll around. The view from the top of Beijing was amazing. Gave great perspective to the enormity of the forbidden city. Skip the “tea ceremony”your guide may take you to.

There's a great view of the Forbidden City at the top of the park. It really gives a good idea of how expansive the complex is.
