What I like about BeiHai is that you can eat, drink and party all in the same place: a lovely district surrounding a lake (Hai).
If this is your first time in Beijing, go for Beijing Duck in BeiHai. They have restaurants that have been there for decades (or so they say) and they even tell you the number of the duck they're serving you! (They have been counting for centuries according to them). Then go bar hopping around the lake. People in Beijing is friendly and they like to talk. And play drinking games. You can meet new friends and have a night to remember. Oh, there's a famous song in China called "One Night in Beijing" - big karaoke number, don't miss it!

It's a nice park behind the Forbidden City, with a beautiful lake and a small hill from where you can see Beijing city.

We walked around the park and lined up with all the locals to take great sunset photos of the bridge. A good place to while away an afternoon (we were there in winter - a sunny day though - it might be a bit of a zoo in other seasons.

I visited one day before Lunar New Year, so there were just a few people walking around. Most of them were skating an the frozen lake. It was -15 degrees, very cold..
I had the chance to witness a representation of a Chinese traditional show, being a symbol for the new year.
In the center of the lake there is an island. On highest point of the island you will see the White Dagoba which is actually a Buddhist temple
I recommend to visit it; you will have to walk a bit, but there is a splendid view over the Beijing from up there.
