Very interesting and well worth the drive from Beijing. Pictures don't do the wall justice - seeing it first hand is the only way you can fully appreciate how difficult it was to construct. Totally amazing!

This part of the Great wall can be crowded and has some tourist attractions for local Chinese. I was fortunate to go in May, and a fresh day when there were not too many people, and it was spectacular, and uncrowded. I would advise not to go to this part of the Great Wall in peak tourist season though

Visiting the wall should be on anyone's bucket list. Was a conference in Beijing and took a day trip to Badaling to visit the wall. Took the gondola up to the top and walked back down to the base camp. This took about 2 hours. Amazing views all around. Be warned even going down there is lots of climbing. My fitbit counted 40 flights of stairs even going down. The museum at the base is definitely worth visiting.

Caught the 877 bus from Beijing, had crystal clear blue sky, could see for miles. 100% worth it to visit. We went on a weekday, was busy but not overwhelmingly so.
