“NICE AND CLEAN HOTEL NEAR TAN AN MEN SQ AND FORBIDDEN CITY”
Reviewed 12 June 2012

Stayed at this hotel for three nights. The staff at the reception were polite and helpful. One of them could speak English. I stayed in the deluxe room which was spacious and the toilet was clean and had all the toiletries as compliments. The cleanliness of the bed linen and towels deserves special mention. The a/c in my room was quiet.

The spread of food for the breakfast was good and had Western and Chineese variety with at least three kinds of fresh fruits. The major advantage as far as i was concerned was its proximity to the famous Tien An Men Square and The forbidden city. Only about eight minutes walk from the front door. The front office manager Phoenix even helped me to buy train tickets to Shanghai and to keep my luggage to be collected on return. Overall i had a very nice stay at this hotel.

Room Tip: Choose non smoking rooms on the upper floors with windows which could be opened. (If you are not tra...

It was a nice stay at the City Center! Rooms were clean and staffs were very cordial. I had a problem openning my luggage lock and they cleared it in their maintenance shop at the basement. Forbidden city is in the vicinity and the tour manager from the hotel was very caring indeed.

We liked this not very big, but nice, clean hotel with various tasty breakfast and near city center. Close with one small chinese restaurant. Quite easy to reach big street with shops and small street with baked scorpions, snakes and other brr on wood stick. Close with Tiananmen place and imperators town.

I'll start with the rooms- we actually stayed here on two different reservations. On our first night, we showed up and they didn't have our reservation. Luckily, I had the email confirmation and they were able to honor it, however, they didn't have any more standard rooms so we were upgraded to one of the executive rooms on the top floor. This room was really nice- modern furniture, clean, etc. (although side note that it could be awkward for some because the bathroom doesn't have a door (just a really large, heavy curtain) so you can hear everything that goes on). So then we checked out for a weekend trip to the Great Wall and came back to join our tour group with a different reservation. This time we had a standard room on the 4th floor and it was nothing like the top floor room. The beds were like concrete, the carpet was old and dirty, the bathroom ceiling was brown and falling in, etc. Maybe this was just us, as the rest of the group said their rooms were fine. In terms of service, the front desk staff was unfriendly. Never a smile, just all business. As for location, I agree with what another reviewer said in that it's in the "middle" of a lot of things... so not exactly close to anything, but otherwise a decent enough base if you don't mind walking 20 minutes to get somewhere.

We booked this hotel by Expedia for 80 US, but if you buy it on reception desk the price is about 400US. Hotel is in very calm street with a lot of green around and close to Tiamen and metro line. Even that it looks nice from outside, rooms are old and had already better times. Staff was ok but slow and with basic english. You must also take some time for check out since they control room after you. We get tour to Great Wall from hotel agency and it was ok.
On hotel corridors you can smell cigarettes even that are smoking not allowed, but that is quite normal in China.
