Initially just wanted to do balloon flight but due to early balloon fight time booked 1 nt stay. So wished I booked a couple more nights as the camp is so relaxing but also exciting with wildlife free to roam around. We had hippos, wart hogs and meerkats. But if you lucky can have elephants, Giraffe and even lions...
The drivers and staff are all very welcoming to make tour stay the best they can... Even with just the one night stay we saw all the big five (Lion, Leopard, Elephant, Rhino and Wildebeests) thanks to Johnson (driver) & Mike (Balloon Pilot)...
As I think/say don’t think too much “Just do it !”

We absolutely LOVED our time at Governor's Camp. Everything was amazing! The staff, the tents, the food, the animals, the spa...it was all top notch! Our family of 8 had a wonderful time. The kids had the time of their lives! Our guide, Sopia, was terrific! The service was amazing. We would love to be able to go back one day! Thanks for the experience of a lifetime!

We had never been on a safari before so had no real idea of what to expect (apart from the obvious) when you first get the transfer from Wilson airport over to the camp, there is apprehension and excitement. You already get a small glimpse of the animals but as soon as you land, they are everywhere. You are then taken to the camp and given a refreshing drink and the do’s and don’t’s. We where shown to our “tent”. Well!!! This is a slice of luxury. I don’t know how they do it but it’s so lovely and homely. We had one of the last tents looking out over the planes. We could see a variety of animals right from our tent. We then had a lovely lunch followed by our first game drive. Dominic was to be our driver and guide for the whole time we stayed. He was amazing. On the first day alone we saw so much and explanations around the migrations, animal habits, how they hunt and live. It was just breathtaking. He managed to see a cheetah kill that no one else could so we were first on scene. Knowing that we had him as a guide was just fantastic. Was saw everything with Dominic! A truly amazing lovely man. The camp and all the staff are lovely. Henry would do our early wake up calls with coffee, tea and hot chocolate and then we we did the sunrise drive which was just incredible. Then back to a hearty breakfast. At night the animals come to life around the camp with hippos, elephants, warthogs and some others roaming around. We also had the hot air balloon ride which I recommend as well followed by breakfast out in the Mara! A truly once in a lifetime experience.
I wish we had stayed longer and if we ever get the chance to go again I would in a heartbeat. Amazing location, amazing staff, amazing food and the animals are just out of this world!!

This is a real safari experience, based on the banks of The Mara River with wildlife abounding and comfortable accommodation and wonderful staff.
Blossom the elephant is a frequent visitor and the Hippo's and Giraffes often visit at night but everything is well patrolled and you never feel in danger. We saw many animals including baby Elephants, Lions, Giraffes, Gazelles and Zebra. I prefer this time of year as it is less crowded, the grass is shorter making it easier to spot the animals and there are many babies around.
Dickson our driver was superb and could spot and identify just about anything and Patrick the Camp manager was first rate. The food is OK, not always to our taste but you have to bear in mind where you are and taking everything into account they did very well and our ever helpful waiter Richard deserves a special mention.
We saw just about everything apart from the elusive Rhino's but Dickson tried his best. The great thing about The Mara is that the drivers can go off the road just about anywhere so you can get really up close and personal to the animals such as Lions, Cheetah and Hyena which is not allowed in other parks such as Tsavo.
Just one word of caution, it is 5000 feet above sea level and can be very cool in the morning until the sun get up, so take some warm clothing if you go, preferably layers as you will get hot later in the day.
Anybody thinking of going I would say go, we cannot wait to return and are saving up already, it was way beyond our best expectations.
We booked our trip through the wonderful JT Safaris (Julius Tact) who I will post a separate review for. His price was very good and everything was perfect. An early morning pick up from our hotel was followed by a scenic 2 hour flight from the local Ukunda airstrip in a 9 seater Cessna. I cannot recommend Julius strongly enough.
To sum it all up in one word - WOW!

Thank you for your lovely review, and please do come back and visit again! We're sorry to hear that the food didn't meet your expectations, which is disappointing to us. Our meals are set menus, however we are able to tailor our menus to the needs and wants of our clients. We hope you will be back again so that we can create meals to your tastes and leave you suitably impressed!
