Do not stay here if you intend to sleep! And if you intend to party, stay somewhere cheaper! At ₩170,000 a night we expected slightly better than decent, and on arrival we were quite impressed with the fancy lobby and suited bell boys. We were given a room on the 9th floor which was a bit grubby and dingy, and despite being non- smoking, stank of smoke, but thought about all the facilities on offer and decided to stay.
We went to find the pool only to discover it is only open in the summer. We tried to play miniature golf, but that too was closed. We went for a drink in the bar on the ground floor. ₩6000 (about £3) for a diet coke!
We went for dinner in the Indian restaurant on the fifth floor, which was very good, but quite expensive.
We returned to our room to find the air conditioning that we had set before we went out was not working and the room was stifling hot. We tried to get to sleep, but regardless of the various window shutters, the noise from the clubs below could not be drowned out. This reached a crescendo at about 1am, when we could bear it no longer and checked out, demanded a refund ( which we were very reluctantly given as the manager on duty stated we should have known it would be that noisy and what did we expect from Itaewon?), jumped in a taxi and stayed in a love motel in Gangnam, which was cheaper, cleaner and quieter.
The Hamilton was only marginally cheaper than some of the other big hotels in Seoul, but it seems to think it is on a par with them when it is not. We will never stay there again, and next time will pay the extra ₩50,000 for the Lotte Hotel!
