“Tbilisi Metro and its interesting escalator”
Review of Metro Tbilisi

Metro Tbilisi
Ranked #2 of 9 Transportation in Tbilisi

This mass transport mode is an efficient and cheap means to bring you to the city's intresting landmarks.

The escalator of Marjianashvili station is the longest escalator I have ever taken in xxx cities I've visited all over the world.

In 2010, I found it difficult to take as there was not enough English scripts of direction and guide around. The plastic coin was a delight to use.

During my 2011 to 2012 stint, it's good to experience that Tbilisi Metro improved putting up English translation of stations and releasing cards that can be tapped up and linked with other modes of transport like the yellow buses and vans.

For security reasons, the guards did not allow me to take photos... : - (

the metro in Tbilisi is a very good way to travel around the city. It is efficient and fast, and most of all it is really cheap! You just have to by a Tbilisi metro card (a smart card) wich you can share with other people. Then you have to recharge it at the little offices inside the metro station. One trip is only 50 cent of Lari.

You must not hesitate and go to the vagon through the people, who are moving out, or the train will go away without you :-)
The train is quick, but old, since the socialist era, from the 50'.

Just buy a card for 3 GEL (these are refundable on your leave if you wish or you can bring it to your friends who are going to Tbilisi) I got it from other lithuanian who came back 1 before my leave. each journey costs 0,5 GEL, I find it cheep. Furthermore you can cool down in metro station and rest from the hot sun of Georgia.

Nothing wrong with Soviet-designed metro systems--they turned out great engineers, after all--and Tbilisi's metro is cheap and efficient. I would not recommend it if you're only going one stop, if only because it's further underground than any metro I've ever seen. It makes Budapest look like street level. But it's clean, safe, and inexpensive. The system is very limited in scope, and you need to buy a card to travel on it (it only costs 2 lari and they sell them at kiosks inside the metro). Very useful for travelling to Marjanashvili train station or Avlabari from the west side of the Mtkvari.
