“Traders - business class, good location”
Reviewed 27 March 2012

We stayed at Traders twice, for 3 nights at the start of our tour of Myanmar, and 1 night at the end. Hotel was booked by tour company (Tour East in Bangkok, Tour Mandalay in Myanmar). Large international business type hotel in colonial part of Yangon. Stayed in renovated room each time, first time on 'normal' floor, with city view towards river, and then on higher club floor with view of Shwedagon Pagoda. Both rooms good size, filled with heavy traditional furniture. Good wi-fi. Breakfast had a huge selection of items. Dinner good but expensive. Service good, but impersonal because of size of hotel and number of guests. Many small stores as turn right out of hotel. Supermarket 250m straight ahead from front of hotel. Behind Traders many stores, change money at Central Hotel, Grand hotel for coffee shop/chinese restaurant/bar, and Scott market.

Stayed two nights at Traders. The lobby is wonderful and spacious. I ordered a dobble gin and tonic and they charged med 12 $ (!).
Good quality large hotel. Clean refurbished room with a comfortable bed and all the usual fittings including a refreshment tray.
A very good souvenir shop well worth exploring even if the prices are higher. The breakfast buffet is the best and I had dinner there too with Japanese (I had sushi and did not get sick), Indian, Burmese, Western, and what not, food. Very, very good.
A cross the street there is Cafe Aroma with good coffees, sandwiches and other food, clean and reasoneble.
Turn left out of the hotel walk about 100 meters cross the main road to firstly Zawgyi House - decent cafe with very nice cheap food, and in my opinion, the best shopping in Burma on first floor. Just a bit further on is Scotts Market were you can buy many things. A few jewelley shops take credit cards.

This hotel is a bit cramped, dated and our room smelt of old cigarettes HOWEVER you won't get better in this price range in Yangon, which is a terrible place for hotels unless you have a huge budget and wish to line the pockets of the military junta! This place is worth a visit for their international buffet dinner, after 3 weeks in Myanmar we were missing some western options and this really hit the spot before we flew to BKK plus it is excellent value given the huge variety of very high quality food that they serve.

Room Tip: Ask for a high floor to make the most of the view.

International standard hotel in the 'HEART' of Yangon. Clean, spacious room with attentive service. Breakfast buffett was loaded with western, Chinese, Indian, Japanese, Burmese and all were delicious! This is the only place you want to stay while in Yangon.
