This was my 3rd time to Nasama Resort, everything about Nasama is perfect, the food, the drinks, the location, the facilities. The staff are absolutely amazing, they are so kind and helpful and genuinely care about your time spent there. We arrived at 2am and security was there to check us in. I cant wait to go back. I would recommend Nasama resort to everyone.

Beautiful setting. We had a sea view - great to wake up to. Our Fiji Airways flight was greatly delayed so reception was closed but the security guard was expecting us and had everything ready. The staff were incredibly helpful and welcoming. The food in both restaurants was very good (although bunia may be an acquired taste). Only suggestion would be that cooked breakfast comes with coffee or juice - why not make it both? And not obvious why you need to sign for breakfast every day when the amount is zero. But that’s a minor quibble. Also there were a few internet outages but staff fixed them quickly.
Maybe we should also mention that it’s easy to get to and from Port Vila with the buses that pass - just flag them down - and there is a small shop with basics opposite.
We also appreciated the help the staff at reception gave us with organising the excellent tour let by John and the airport shuttle, with the very nice driver.

Dear Martin,

Thank you very much for taking time to leave your review. We are so pleased you enioy our stay.

The signature for the breakfast is simply to confirm your room number and the number of breakfasts, in the event another guest mistakens their room number and records their breakfast on your room (this happens more than you think). Then you wouldn't be able to claim your complimentary breakfast!

Again, we appreciate the feedback and how we can welcome you back in the future.

Kind regards,
Sarah

The DON'T

1/ Don't go to Vanuatu if you flight Qantas/Air Vanuatu. With us, They changed the outbound flight time 3 times, and cancelled the inbound flight 3 times. So unless your're flexible with time, don't even consider.

2/ Don't go to this place thinking you can have a good swim, snorkel or kayaking as the beach is all dead corals bar a small pond that you can have a dip.

3/ Don't go to the onsite restaurants , the service is slow, the food is mediocre and the price is exorbitant.

4/ If you can, stay in the units on the right hand side of the pool ( when you stand facing the ocean ) . That side has the most refreshing ocean breeze and quieter than the other side.

The DO

1/ Please go to the market as often as you can to directly support the local people . The local products ( paw paw, drinking coconuts, bananas, all sort of fruits ) are the best and cheapest organic and fresh products that you won't be able to get anywhere in the world. You won't get fresh fruits at the resort and if you do , you'll be paying ridiculous price for them.

2/ Do have a massage at the resort . at $90/ ph it's not cheap but it's worth it and also you directly support the local women.

3/ Do fly Virgin if you want to go to Vanuatu.

The land rent for Nasama is $5500 US per Annum ( The resort is for sale , free advertisement here ). Labour is cheap. Food is cheap. I don't understand why you pay Autralian price for everything at the resort.

There is no scheme or initiative to give back to the community ( if there is,i can't find it on their website). I did feel i exploit the local people staying there. Would i go back ?? Don't think so.

Dear cdinhvu,
I am the owner of Nasama Resort. I must say that I find this review very strange as it does not review the resort but rather reviews my business model, what we pay in land rent (which is incorrect), and how we treat the local community (no research done).
Some of the issues presented are very hurtful to me personally. As a person who has lived in Vanuatu for 18 years and designed and built the resort from scratch, I am proud of what my family and wonderful local team have achieved.
Your concerns:
1. Flights. While Air Vanuatu’s plane is being repaired, we advise our guests to book their flights with Virgin Air which provides a very reliable service.
2. Snorkelling activities. We offer an exceptional experience just 30 meters from the shore, featuring a captivating drop-off along the coastline. To fully enjoy this, we recommend timing your visit during high tide and favourable ocean conditions. Please note that reaching this scenic spot requires swimming 50 metres beyond the dug-out rock pool.
3. Local Produce. We do our best to use fresh fruit and vegetables in season. Note however that broccoli, cauliflower, leeks, zucchini, etc. cost between AU$20 and AU$30 per kilo here. In Australia it is AU$5 or less. We buy all our vegetables, fruit, fish, poultry, and meat from local producers. The fish is delivered by the fishermen themselves just hours after being caught. We have a little old man that brings us only limes and another coconuts. We offer fresh fruit in season in our restaurants but we do not sell the fruit as we are not a grocer.
5. Restaurants service and food quality, We would like to highlight the numerous glowing 5-star reviews we regularly receive on TripAdvisor for both Café Vila and Three Pigs. Café Vila holds the esteemed position of #1 in Port Vila, while Three Pigs, despite being open for only a year, ranks #4. These accolades are a testament to our commitment to providing exceptional dining experiences.
4. Massages. Our one-hour massage is AU$60 and guests are pampered in our purpose built house right on the ocean to the sounds of breaking waves.
6. Resort for sale. It is a strata title development where the apartments are sold to investors similar to the Meriton and Quest in Australia as are most of the Gold Coast high rises. Note that Hyatt, Hilton, and Pullman do not own the real estate – they only own the management rights. It is my choice as majority owner of the apartments to run the management to ensure that we provide services to our satisfaction. The management rights will eventually be sold.
6. Supporting the local people. The comment” if they do you won’t see it on their website” is particularly hurtful, If it was on the website, would it be a genuine show of support or just something you do so that you can put it on your website?
I held the first surfing contest at Pango Beach, presenting 7 surfboards as prizes to the local kids who up until that time were surfing on broken boards with no noses or fins.
We also support Pastor Kalmet with his kindergarten.
Throughout the year, we donate funds to the Chief and his villagers for meetings, birthdays, funerals and medical treatment. Hardly a week goes by without some donation to personal causes.
We helped Pango Village recover after Cyclones Pam, Kevin and Judy.
I do not show any of the above on our website as it would be very self-serving in my opinion. Charity should not be about gaining community praise, or something to show off, but something that comes from within.
7. Why Vanuatu is not cheap. Unlike Bali, we are a very small, underdeveloped country in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. Efate only has 60,000 people. Nothing is manufactured here. Everything is brought in at huge shipping costs, very high import fees and custom duties. Cars incur 40 % import duties and wine is 40% plus 1,000 vatu (AU$12) per litre. Our electricity is produced by a large diesel generator and is the most expensive in the world. I hope the reviewer appreciated the air conditioning!
8. Compared to Australia, our wages are low. However, they are 3 to 4 times more than Indonesia. We also give our staff 6 months paid maternity leave, (USA only has a week,) 21 days paid holidays and 21 days paid sick leave. Plus one month severance pay for every year worked.

We loved every minute of our five nights at Nasama. The suites are spacious, well equipped, and comfortable with large balconies. We overlooked a lovely infinity pool and a small beach with an ocean breeze and view. To sit back at night and look at the stars was magical.
The staff, Sharlyn, Ashley, Mona, and the others whose names I did not get unfortunately, were so helpful and friendly. We always felt well cared for.
What we also really appreciated were the two excellent restaurants right on the property. Three Pigs was good for pizza and a beer, but Cafe Vila was one of the best places we have eaten on our three month trip. The menu is creative, healthy, and so delicious. The real bonus in staying at Nasama is the gourmet full breakfast with lots of choices, is included in the price of the room. It was something we really looked forward to each day and it added real value. Nasama is highly recommended from someone not easily pleased.

Room tip: Get a room close to the ocean on second floor. You'll hear the waves and have total privacy. Have dinner at the Cafe Villa. Take a tour.

We just ended our stay of 9 days here. The location of the resort is great and the views are sensational.

Staff are friendly, but the price and the fact that the place needs a huge make over were a bit of a disappointment. Our room was lovely though and we had the best reviews.

There are 2 restaurants on site that are a great convenience and a local shop to get drinks, snacks and those little things you might need. The food is nice enough but is extremely overpriced as is everything for some reason. Be prepared as a couple to spend easily over $200 each night for dinner (just a main and drinks).

The pool was nice but the grounds needed a cleanup there were broken lights around the pool area and a terrible stain in the pool that was a bit off putting.

The views from the site are something else though and made up for the things that need fixing. The resort is for sale and it feels like it’s been given up on, to be honest it needs some TLC, especially for the prices that they are asking. I wouldn’t rate it a 4 star resort in the state it’s currently in.

Room tip: Vanuatu has become extremely over priced for some reason. Prices are double that of Sydney for eating out. Resort needs a makeover.

Dear Karen,

Thank you for sharing your recent experience at Nasama Resort on TripAdvisor. Your feedback is incredibly valuable to us, and we are committed to addressing any concerns to enhance the guest experience.

I want to provide some context regarding the challenges we've faced since the reopening of our international borders in July 2022. We've encountered unprecedented difficulties, including two consecutive catastrophic cyclones and ongoing flight cancellations by our national airline, Air Vanuatu. These events have significantly impacted our ability to operate smoothly, but rest assured, we have already begun updating our rooms as part of our ongoing efforts to improve.

Regarding our pricing, we strive to offer competitive rates while maintaining excellent quality and service at our restaurants. As a remote island destination, we rely on imports from Australia and New Zealand, which incurs higher costs due to shipping expenses. However, we do our best to align our prices with Australian standards and often provide comparable or even lower rates. For instance, our AUD8 house wine is priced favorably compared to the $14 average in Australia, and our $37 steak is notably less expensive than the $45+ average cost in Australia.

We appreciate your feedback regarding maintenance around the pool area. Adverse weather conditions, including significant rainfall during your stay, impacted our gardening efforts temporarily. However, I can assure you that we have since rectified these issues, and our landscaping is now up to date.

We are delighted that you enjoyed our picturesque location with stunning ocean views, a private beach, and a swimming pool. Your satisfaction is our priority, and we look forward to welcoming you back for an improved and memorable experience in the future.

Warm regards,

Sarah

Despite some rainy days we enjoyed every moment of our stay at Nasama Resort. Often when the weather is dismal, it can be hard to focus on the positives but with such beautiful tropical surroundings, friendly people and access to family friendly activities on our door step, we were as happy as could be. The top 3 highlights of the stay would have to be....
The two bedroom apartment which was beautifully appointed and comfortable for our family.
The delightfully placed pool with views out to the ocean.
The indulgent hot stone massage down on the waterfront.
I didn't want to leave and can not wait to go back!

Room tip: I recommend taking coffee or tea from home if fussy like me. I found it hard to find a hot drink that hit the spot.
