“Perfect Island Retreat”
Reviewed 7 February 2018 for a stay in December 2017

This is an awesome 5-star "get away from the rat-race island retreat" -> it is a retreat though and not a 5-star hotel, so set your expectations accordingly. Your hosts, Annie and Garry, are extremely friendly and accomodating and go the extra mile to ensure your stay is stress free and relaxing. The accommodation is clean and comfortable, the surroundings are lush and beautiful, and the location is fantastic - right on the lagoon. Don't expect there to be reliable internet but do expect warm water and plenty of laughter from the local kids playing in the water. This was just what I needed. We will definitely be back.

“Great place to avoid the tourist experience!”
Reviewed 11 October 2017 for a stay in September 2017

If you want to be part of village life in Vanuatu and wake up to the roosters, dogs and kids having fun - this is your place. We loved it. The waterfront villa is more than adequate, well equipped and so well serviced by Sarah, the housekeeper. The location is outstanding on the edge of the lagoon and opposite the Erakor Island Resort. You are made to feel genuinely welcome at the Resort, if you decide against cooking for yourself. Just a three minute boat ride away and they pick you up. Alternatively a trip to the market on the combi buses is tremendous fun and Annie, your landlady, will introduce you to the French deli and the fish shop. So cooking at home, in a splendid environment with a great barbeque, is the other alternative. The combi buses are 200 metres up the hill and we never had to wait for one to pass. Swimming is not great unless you venture a way out, but snorkeling and kayaking is a joy. Annie kayaks out to the reef every morning and swims back, pushing the kayak ahead from time to time on the return journey. If you are fit you should join her. We enjoyed inviting the village kids in for a biscuit after school. But they never encroach unless you invite them. Such good fun.

“Troppo Mistake would be a better name!!!!”
Reviewed 14 September 2017 for a stay in August 2017

What a let-down. It is located in a remote nu van village, where the locals party all night, and burn rubbish all day!. Sure it "looks" good, but the accommodating lacks the basic entertainment facilities, the lagoon is littered with crown-of-thorn starfish, and the "owner" has no regard to re paying funds if you want to depart early. I was taken for a ride!!!! Be very wary of this place, which goes under at least 3 different names. NEVER pre-pay. There in no pool!

Management Response
20 Sep 2017
How sad that this guest chose to book, 6 months in advance, to spend 6 nights at my beautiful, peaceful, alternative, waterfront accommodation, when she would clearly have been much happier in a large, commercial resort in town. Selecting accommodation to suit individual tastes and needs is now made so much easier, with detailed online review forums providing actual customer experience.

Let me address some of the errors in this review.

1. Location: As advertised, Troppo Mystique is located a short distance out of busy Port Vila, and is accessed via a road through the local village, whose friendly inhabitants and their traditional ways of life, such as canoe
fishing, and cooking the evening meal on small, open wood fires, is part of the ambiance.

2. Lagoon Swimming: The crystal clear waters of Erakor Lagoon are renowned for safe swimming. There are many beautiful, large, pink and red starfish in the lagoon. These are completely harmless. They are most definitely not crown of thorns starfish.

3. Noise: Erakor resort, across the water from Troppo Mystique is a popular wedding venue. On the 1 night that this guest stayed, there was a Ni-Vanuatu wedding in progress across the water – accompanied by music and laughter. It's true that the festivities continued until well into the night on the one and only night that this guest stayed, but normal peace and tranquility reigned for the following 5 nights.

4). Entertainment. Troppo Mystique's neighbor, Erakor resort, is also a popular beach bar & restaurant. Erakor is most welcoming to all our guests, hosting weekly entertainment of live musician /pizza movie / Cultural Custom feast and dance nights.

5) Troppo Mystique has been trading under this title for past 6 years, since the dissolving of a previous partnership.

In summary, this guest booked and paid for 6 night's accommodation at Troppo Mystique. The day she after her arrival, she went to town to hire a car, then at some stage returned to the villa, collected her belongings, and
left. She did not inform me that she was leaving, nor give me the opportunity to address any of the concerns she apparently encountered in her short stay. I did not hear from her until she had returned home, when she e-mailed threatening to circulate damning reviews such as this one, unless I agreed to refund 60% of her payment, despite the fact that she was fully aware of our cancellation and refund policies at the time of booking. We strongly suggest that this guest consider purchasing travel insurance before her next trip.
