I was in Honiara for the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Guadalcanal and was recommended this hotel as 4.5 stars. Not sure by whose standard that is but the hotel is lucky to have the stars as, on the outside, it is a bit sad and tired. Initially I was given the wrong room but staff easily changed me over to the right one when alerted. The deluxe room is a nice size but the linen is tired and pretty 'slimey' and the pillows are certainly past their use by date. The furniture is dark and dated as is the furniture in the reception area. It was disappointing to see no celebration of the reason most of the guests where there at the time, ie. the anniversary of the great battle. The gardens could also do with a spruce up. It's amazing what a difference a bouganvillea or two can do!
All that being said, the staff were delightful and couldn't be more helpful. They were always charming and ready to help in any way. We took the opportunity to tour the area for a further two days after the celebrations were over and the hotel guide Jimmy was superb. Always ready and smiling with the appropriate vehicle, and lunch, we went all the way east and all the way west on each day. Jimmy and his drivers were always ready to accomodate our needs. Excellent.
Other staff worth mentioning were Ben and the girls Fiona et al in the dining room and Tanila in reception.
Thank you for making our pilgrimage so marvellous.
