three weeks in paradise
Review of Coral Gardens
5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 21 Aug 2017
We have just returned from spending three weeks with Stafford and Salome in beautiful Coral Gardens.
The whale watching from the adjacent Sails Bar was spectacular and Stafford's Wednesday Quiz Night is an island must.

Had been meaning to drop in on Sails bar for a few days but finally got the opportunity on the day before we left - and we wished we had tried it out sooner.
Stafford is a great host - says it like it is - and was really good company. His prices are fabulous and he makes a mean cocktail!!
Beautiful spot and the cats are pretty cute too... definitely worth a visit or two.. or three..

Thank you Stafford and Lome, my girls and I had an amazing trip and stay at your beautiful accommodation. As hosts they could not do enough for us, the location was close enough to Alofi but private enough to enjoy the amazing scenery from our deck and from the bar. Meeting the friendly locals and taking part in the weekly Trivia night quiz was some of the highlight of our trip. Very relaxed environment would definitely recommend this beautiful place and would stay again on our next visit.

Spent a lovely time at this Motel, booking two of the chalets. Stafford and his wife were excellent hosts and we would most definitely stay here again. Basic, comfortable with everything we needed. Thanks for the complimentary drinks!

Room tip: We had chalets 4 & 5 - perfect for our family

Our verandah at the front of our fale was a great place to sit and read and enjoy the view of the sea. Even better - at night (at the end of August) we heard a whale "blowing" in the sea just nearby!
Our room had all the required facilities, and was very pleasant. A couple of things weren't so well designed (such as the bed-lamps, which were rather poorly positioned, and insect screen on the front door - all the windows were well protected with screens though), but there was plenty of space.
Well located for driving to excellent snorkelling places nearby - Limu Pools was a favourite for us - and back to restaurants in Alofi when you don't want to cook. (There's also a restaurant shuttle bus apparently, though we didn't use that.)

We had a marvellous week staying at Coral Gardens. Stafford was super helpful; in the lead up, tolerating my endless questions by email, arranging a rental car for our stay, meeting us at the airport and getting us on our way, and then we arrived to a basket of fruit and a bottle of wine! We can't blame him for the rainy weather i guess.....(!). the other guests were relaxed and friendly and we joined in the trivia night, great fun. the unit had everything that was needed for a lovely and relaxing stay, Stafford and Salome were always on hand if we had MORE questions, with friendly and helpful advice. The rental car was a bonus and enabled us to see almost every one of the swimming spots around the island. Didn't quite make it to the bottom of the cave snorkelling spot on the property - right dodgy despite Stafford's assurances from his safe position at the top! Sitting on the deck with a cold drink, chatting to Stafford and gazing out over the ocean is one of our highlights. We came home feeling relaxed, recharged and could not fault a thing.
