With the reality of climate change regularly impacting all parts of the globe, it was encouraging to visit a concept city that emphasizes energy conservation and sustainability. During our visit, my wife and I noted that this is a city where walkways are designed to encourage pedestrian traffic as well as bicycles. The local electric minibus provided an enjoyable ride around parts of the city. It is driverless, but can be operated with a joystick, if necessary. I learned that all of the food in Masdar must be organic and no cars will be driven in the city.
The buildings are attractive and the city appeared to be spotlessly clean when I visited. I sincerely hope that this concept is successful.
Don't visit on a Saturday, as everything is closed. As someone interested in the issues Masdar is looking to address I was disappointed that there is no visitors centre, and no displays explaining the concept.
There is however an enormous car park (2 actually) and a large diesel powered generator welcomes you if you walk in from the airport (about 2.5km, possible in winter, hot in summer, but you have to walk on the road). Given Abu Dhabi now has a bike-sharing scheme an idea would be to extend it to Masdar.
The place is worth a visit if you are interested in architecture, town planning etc. As others say it is a ghost town. There is a shopping mall (which must be struggling to cover its costs) and a nice park (if temperatures allow), together with a university and other public buildings. The downloadable self-guided tour helps add some context, and the Siemens building has a small display in their foyer. It is however somewhat crazy that that this is Lonely Planet's top sight in Abu Dhabi.

I really liked it but the area i stayed in was a smal house it smelled but I fixed it it is very enjoyable
Since I was at University, I have always dreamed of seeing Masdar City and for me, it is still under construction because the ambitions are just so grand. Masdar City is known to be the first eco city and there is good reason why it has such a name. I think once you visit you can appreciate the scale and size of the ambition and the fact that it's still under completion makes you think there's more to come.
I haven't visited that place but it is sustainable that is the thing that I like about it I wish I could visit but I cant
