Pleasant non-threatening atmosphere; much of the textile goods on offer comes from India. Be prepared to bargain fiercely! Start at half the asking price; we usually found you could get down to between 60 and 70%, and occasioanlly more if you buy more than one item.

As I had this opportunity to see such Bazzars(market or sough) in several midle eastern cities , the sough is beautiful but what may dissapoint you is that in an Omani and arab market you must buy chiniese goods from indian shopkeepers.

The Souk is full of charm and atmosphere. Unfortunately it is also full of cruise ship crowds. That tends to drive the prices up. Don't be afraid to haggle.

We enjoyed walking through the shops. They have many beautiful items for sale - silver jewelry, scarves and clothing and frankincense. We were in a shop run by Omani's and they had an item that I looked at and wanted to think about. It helped for my husband to come to the shop and look and they reduced the price for him. In the center of the Souk we purchased frankincense from a shop owner and he invited us to enjoy tea with him. It was a good experience because the Souk was bustling with travellers from the Cruise ships that were in port.

For those who have already seen other souqs, it won't be too different. Same atmosphere. However, the souq premises are particularly interesting. It's an all-covered area. The ceiling is particularty interesting and outstanding. The shops seem to have kept an authentic flavor. You may find two more typical items to look for there: a variety of oriental perfumes and a vast array of spices and incense. Oman has long been a well-known supplier of a high quality incense originating from the southern tip of the country.
