We stayed in Al Hamra and traveled with a guide for 4WD journey and hiking in Snake Canyon. It was a wonderful experience - the drive alone is thrilling, with sheer drops and crevices and canyons. Very glad we had a local guide Zehyr) to drive us! The hiking and rappelling in the zCanyon was great - reminded us of Zion NP in Utah. Then we had lunch in a Omani house (our guide's house) - that was very nice. Delicious food and very friendly, nice family; we met several family members -it really was a chance to have a view of life in a traditional Omani village and made it special. The guide we used was Rachid - he can be reached via What's App +968 9236 0136.

My only complaint about the trip - and it is unfortunately one that is far too common these days - was that there was some rubbish left in the canyon. I think all the guides and people who use the Canyon regularly should aim to remove some piece of left over plastic bottles eat each time they go and not add to it, and soon the area could be cleaned up. It really detracts from the enjoyment when I see such disregard for the environment.

We have had the greatest pleasure to find Bader for a 2 day trip around Snake Canyon. He organized everything to the last detail including food, overnight in guest house Bait Bimah, pickup in Muscat and most importantly safe guiding through the canyon followed by a trip in the local mountains on unmarked paths. He is a native to this area and if you intend to find a reliable guide with absolute and undoubted local knowledge; on top a very friendly person fluent in English, then get in touch with Bader at: bader.azaan@gmail.com or at 0096 892 44413.

We loved the whole trip, from abseiling and jumping in the pools through swimming and walking. Thanks to Mohammed, who is Rashid's brother, who was our guide for the day.

First time canyoning, I was very much concern of having the experience with a guide who looked after our safety while we enjoyed the experience. Canyoning in Oman is a must but there are several safety elements to take into consideration: weather (rain in Oman can fall suddenly and abundantly), quality of the materials (ropes, helmets...), knowledge of the canyon (when and where you can jump without a problem)etc. We went for the 5h canyoning with Rashid (he does shorter canyoning excursions, trekking etc) and we will never forget the extraordinary experience! Rashid is very responsible and reliable, works with very good materials, he knows every corner of the canyon, knows when the trip should be cancelled because of the rain and he is really nice and patient. He was at the meeting point in time. He took care of everything, including the snack of fruits and dates. The canyon is just amazing! You only need to bring one pair of comfortable sneakers, a swimming custome, follow Rashid instructions and have fun!. When we finished, we went to his house @ Bald Sayt (beautiful village!)for a very nice lunch. Bring long trousers (avoid shorts).
Rashid has my highest recommendation! +968 9236 0136. He is available through WhatsApp.
I highly recommend to stay for the night before at the travel lodge Bait Bimah (see my review), located 15min away from the meeting point (Audi Football Field). We arrived throughout the road of AlKhadra-Fasah which is outstanding instead of the road of AlFar which is easier and direct. Either way, you need 4x4.

So my friend and I drove here thinking it was possible to swim in the canyon but you can’t get there without a guide . You need climbing ropes otherwise it is inaccessible. Roads to get there are pretty dangerous mph rain roads for around 1 hrs. Camping in the area is good
