Hacarmel apartment was one disappointment after the other. Our first night was spent in a room with aircon that didn't work - in the middle of summer. We were moved a few days later at 7am in the morning with no warning by a painter who spoke no English and was incredibly inappropriate with his actions and way he went about things. After being moved to a room which was okay, we were charged almost $100 extra on top of the price we were supposed to pay for the accomodation. After weeks of trying to communicate with the owner whom the money was transferred to, he has completely ignored me and stolen money. The rooms were basic and decent, however nothing like the pictures shown on booking.com. The place itself stunk, there was blood on the sheets, and in our second room there was no natural air or light. The shuk it is situated in is constantly busy and incredibly dirty - not to mention a fair walk to anywhere we wanted to go. At night when the shuk closes it becomes a garbage dump and the smell of dead caucus does not fade at any point. Would not recommend staying here.
The photos are misleading. In reality this apartment (no. 5) is dark (has only inner window) and smelly. No balcony (kind of small terrace with no views and toilet smell from time to time). One bedroom as the third bed is in the kitchen, just by the entrance door. No sound isolation at all. You hear every step and door shut other guests make. We spent several sleepless nights as the other guests had kind of party and nothing could be done about it.
Good things - fast WiFi and closeness to the sea.
Ok for one night staying, but if longer - do not poison your holidays.
We were 3 adults and 3 kids (2,7,8) the apartment was small, but clean and had enough space for all of us. The apartment was very quiet, we didn't hear anything from the market. Furthermore, it also had a nice private balcony, where we could breakfast or relax a little bit. As mentioned, the apartment is situated in the middle of Shuk HaCarmel, what's perfect if you like fresh jus, fruits or other culinary discoveries (if you look for a nice venue, visit in the street next to the apartment, the beerbazar, a really nice meeting point).
The apartment is also very good located for shopping or visiting the beach (5min).
Last, but not least, some words to Shlomo. He send us prior to our arrival all needed information, including detailed explanation how to find and enter the apartment. During our stay, Shlomo reacted very fast to our requests (also during Sabbath), that was really cool.
If you like the easy way of traveling then you will find with this apartment a very good cost-benefit ratio
