Hi a r, thank you very much for your comments. We are happy to hear that you enjoyed your stay with us over Passover this year. We put a lot of effort into ensuring that our guests would be able to celebrate this Passover like no other one before it. This included things like the food on the menu and getting Duo-Re'im to lead the Seder.

We look forward to welcoming you back to our hotel for Passover 2013 if not before!

We've been to the hotel on numerous occasions and while it is arguably one of Israel's finest hotels it invariably falls short time and time again. As Intercontinental Platinum Ambassador members we're accustomed to a level of service that befits the Intercontinental brand and while some elements are present at this hotel, we find the overall experience less than perfect. As an aside, we've stayed at the David Intercontinental for both business and pleasure and this review is an amalgamation of several stays.

Being at the southern end of Tell Aviv (near Yafo ), the hotel is a bit isolated from most other hotels though there is a Dan hotel next door. Personally, I like the location because it is within easy walking distance of the Carmel Market (Souk), the old city of Yafo, the newly created Tachana (old railway station with restaurants/shops), and IDF museum. The sea is directly across the street though there's no beach associated with the hotel and one has to stare at the ugly and abandoned Dolphinarium complex. So, if you really want the beach it's a few minutes hike north or south where one can shell out a few shekels for a chair.

Offsetting the lack of a beach is the lovely pool and outside bar area. The access is regulated and we've never had problems securing a chaise lounge or a place to sit even during holidays. One lap lane exists but the lifeguards need to police it better so that guests who really want to swim don't have to dodge kids hanging on the rope or playing inside the lane. The poolside bar provides a vast array of food and beverage and this is one area where the staff excels in service.

While I have digressed a bit with respect to some of the hotel features let's return to the overall experience. One annoying aspect of this hotel has always been the reception desk. Check in is always a hassle, the staff seem annoyed, and the service is simply poor. The lobby area has recently been renovated and while it is open and attractive, the seating areas are just too few for the number of guests. This is particularly acute during weekends and holidays.

The rooms themselves are reasonably well appointed and the hotel generally honors upgrades. Staying on the executive floors provides access to either or both executive lounges (more on that later). One peculiar aspect of this hotel is that the guestrooms are arranged in three wings. Though the rooms themselves are fairly quiet for some reason noise from the hall is particularly evident. If kids run down the hall or people are outside speaking, it sounds as though they were inside one's room.

The food is generally of high quality albeit it comparatively overpriced. Still the Shabbos evening dinner is something to behold and is as elegantly executed as any wedding. Breakfast is usually, though not always included with the room rate and consists of a terrific Israeli style buffet. The service is generally poor at breakfast and again the facilities seem too small for the number of guests - breakfast is more of a contact sport though sitting outside can reduce the pain. Interestingly, I never have issues with food/hygiene while traveling in Israel although this latest journey I was beset with a case of Shil-shul (diarrhea) which I contracted at the hotel. Chalk it up to a case of bad luck?

While my latest GI experience may have been a misadventure one annoying and recurrent problem with the hotel has been that of internet access. Wifi is a pay for enterprise with rates as low as $ 50 for five days (it goes up proportionately for shorter durations). Signal and connectivity are no problem but bandwidth is. The throughput is agonizingly slow and is not something that one expects at a hotel of this character. Again, this is not an isolated event and the terrible internet speed has been experienced on several visits.

One of my major concerns with the hotel has always been the rather unwarranted, surly behavior of the staff. With a few exceptions, they are rarely helpful and are downright discourteous. As a guest I am often made to feel as though I were a thief and am frequently questioned as to whether I am supposed to be there. Nowhere was this more evident than when my wife and I were using the executive club. As I referenced to this before this is a area for members who pay an additional charge or 'executive' rate. This entitles the guest access to the club lounges where there are complimentary beverages, hot/cold food all day, newspapers, chairs, computers, etc. It's a nice area to relax, well worth the additional charge, and useful for doing business.

Yet, we were always challenged upon our entry into the club while large numbers of Israeli and French families walked right in, were given unfettered access, brought in dozens of guests without question, allowed their kids to scream, run around, and otherwise tear up the place. For a while this became almost a spectator sport for us to watch the madness unfold and see the selective nature of the staff's enforcement.

Apart from the issues at the club and the front desk, the behavior of the bell desk leaves much to be desired. They are responsible not only for the luggage but to secure taxis as well. The bell staff were disinterested and frequently failed to assist. On a positive note, the concierge has moved to a new lounge area and we found them to be very helpful.

In addition to the usual amenities, the David Intercontinental offers a Spa and workout facility. It combines a selection of treadmillls, machines, and weights, offering a nice alternative to those who want more than a run or walk along the beach.

From an overall standpoint there is a lot to like about the David Intercontinental
though it misfires in many places. If the management could tweak a few aspects and improve the customer experience it could approach world class. For now at least one has to settle for the vagaries of a hot and cold experience. With this in mind, knowing what to expect will help one negotiate the few rough spots.

We are regulars to this hotel because we are comfortable in clean, quiet, spacious rooms. We eat in the restaurants food of the highest standards, we enjoy lazing in the large pool area and the team respond willingly to solve any requests. They are friendly, helpful and aware of individuals and their needs. This hotel does what a hotel should. It takes care of its guests.

Room Tip: Personally, we don't like the sound of the lift so ask for rooms away from this.
