The place was a little bit hard to find, even with GPS (just go off the main drag into a little alley). I was a bit concerned when we walked in and the place had lots of empty tables whereas we could not get a reservation at several other places. We were a group of 6 people and all appetizers and main dishes were all exceptional, the best I had in my few days in Jerusalem. But even more exceptional was the very friendly service. So I'm figuring the ease of getting a table is just due to the fact that it's not visible from Jaffa Street (or any other street) - so I recommend taking advantage of that!

We've eaten here twice, love the relaxed laid back atmosphere and the incredible service. For the most part the food has been excellent although there were some problems with the steak I had last time I was there. In any case we will return especially since it is one of the few places open on Shabbat...

We found Shanty on Trip Advisor and we were super glad we did! After walking the small alleys of Jerusalem we found the restaurant relatively quiet when we arrived (we were in the low season because who else is silly enough to come to Israel in July it’s so hot!) so we had no problem getting a table for five. Our waiter Louis was fantastic- he was friendly, personable and made great recommendations. He stopped us ordering too many appetisers and then supplemented it with some complimentary focaccia bread and Israeli dips for a complete starter. We had the beef carpaccio, baked eggplant, and a special of the day - a delicious lamb kebab with tahini dressing - all of which were delicious and three starters was perfect between five of us.

The main menu was simple with an Italian twist - between us we had a fettuccine, a ravioli and gnocchi, the fish of the day and chicken breast with mushroom sauce. Suffice to say we liked it - all five plates were finished clean and Louis even brought us some warm bread to soak up the sauces at the end.

We again opted to share a few desserts between us - all of which were amazing - the coconut and passion fruit sorbets a great refreshing end to the meal although the heavier chocolate cake that melted in your mouth and creme brûlée also went down a treat. The recommendations on the cocktails, wine and beer also topped it all off nicely!

5/5 not to be missed!

This was truly the most delicious cafe meal we have had for a very long time. Salad, focaccia, eggplant on tahini and the most delicious ravioli cooked in garlic butter. Sensational and all served by a warm personable waiter who took pride in his offerings. Highly recommended.

We found Shanty by strolling. No reservation on Friday night but one table left. It was a feast. The lady serving us was only working here for a year but so friendly, efficient and fast!! Got 2 beers, a market salad and an entrecote! Got some small appetizers and some great italian bread! Salad as fresh as it can be and great taste. Steak excellent!
Good value for the price for our last supper in Israel!!
