Big night last night (4 Sept 2017). Stuck in broken lift with 6 others for over half an hour, including girl in tears who also carried a machine gun!! And also a stressed older Italian couple. We finally got out after much noise and when they opened the lift doors between floors. I cut my knee climbing out when the non English speaking staff pulled me out when I said no!! Following this ordeal at hot temperatures in the lift - no-one from management came to even apologise. I followed up with reception around 20:45 same night and they said no manager on site )of a major hotel!!). I asked the to pass on my concerns and injury and gave my room numbers. 24 hours later I have heard absolutely nothing. Also - the rooms are smallish, the towels small, and the kettle does mot switch off - you get to be burned by steam to stop it boiling. I am unhappy they don't care about they guests.By the way - most of my reviews for hotels are very positive - read them to see. I am not a regular whinger! Note also this is a favourite hotel for coach companies.....

Room Tip: Go somewhere else - plenty of hotels near old city

Dear Rob,

First of all, thank you for taking the time to write us this review. We deeply apologize for the elevator incident, and the time it took to take you out. Our management takes the well being of our guest very seriously, and we will check thoroughly why your message didn't get to the General Manager. The majority of our guest really enjoys staying with us, and we're sorry your trip ended on that sour note. We really hope we'll have the pleasure to host you againin the future, and change your mind about us.

Best regards,

We travelled as a group to Jerusalem in August 2017. The rooms and bathrooms are nice, clean and are well maintained. Food was awesome. Receptionists were very kind, helpful and professional in their interaction with guests.

Room Tip: There is no gym at this hotel, however, you can ask reception for a complimentary voucher to a gym l...

Rooms and bathroom were ok

Breakfast and dinner changed every day. Some of them was good but For other days the variety was adeguate. Service to the tables was ok

Good location. 10 min by walking from Damasco door and close to an ATM and to a 24/7 supermarket

The only point to notice is that the hotel is used as a military base for Israeli soldiers so you can share the elevators and common areas with soldiers carrying mitra and weapons

Overall recommended

Dear Anna,

Thank you for taking the time to write us this detailed review. First of all, I would like to correct one of your observations, the Hotel is not used as a military base, however from time to time we have guests from the military and the police, like other independent tourists and groups tours. We're pleased to read that you have enjoyed our facilities, food and location. We do have an ATM machine in our Business Center open 24/7. Our Hotel is well located near the Old city and downtown Jerusalem. We hope we'll have the pleasure of your company in the future as well, and that you will recommend us to your family and friend.

Wishing you an excellent day !

Stayed there for four nights in August. Took me three nights to figure out that door must be securely closed for AC to work. Nice accommodations(minus AC irritation), decent food. Lobby is a comfortable place to enjoy when you want out of your room. Can't wait to see the lobby finished, as it is under construction. Free international calls each day up to 20 minutes and free wi-fi. Close to light rail and Damascus gate.

Dear Tammy,

Thank you for choosing the Olive Tree Hotel, and for taking the time to write us this review. We're satisfied to read that overall you enjoyed your stay with us, from the accommodations to the Location. Most of the AC systems in Israel are schedule to shut down if the door or windows stay open too long. We are in fact renovating large public spaces of the hotel, and will start upgrading the rooms as well by the end this year. We hope will have the pleasure to host you again in the future as well.

Wishing you a great day !

We were in a group, so there was a lovely buffet lunch provided for us. Our dining area was in a high, central room with natural light, highlighting the ancient olive tree in the center. A relaxing place to eat after a crowded and noisy time in the Old City. Good vegetarian options.
