“Rustic lovely place in a superb location.”
Reviewed 30 January 2012

My family stayed here a few days ago and were very happy with our choice for a number of reasons: it absolutely oozes character and history, the Christians who volunteer to work here are warm, friendly and hospitable and it is a very short walk to the sights of the old city. The rooms are simple, but comfortable and it is very quiet. The only issue really was the tiny bathrooms, but this was worth putting up with for the positives. It is extremely reasonable cost wise and breakfast was plentiful and delicious and as long as you are not expecting gourmet it was very satisfying. They were prompt in replying to emails and very helpful in giving advice as well as organizing a taxi back to the airport for us. I would stay here again if in Jerusalem.

This is a very well located guest house opposite the Citadel and just within the city walls at the Jaffa Gate. You are a 10 minute walk away from all of the major sites, including Western Wall, Temple Mount and Church of the Holy Sepulchre. You can go out in the morning and be within the souks in a matter of seconds and yet since it is within a secure compound it is also quiet.

The accommodation is quite basic really but comfortable and clean and the ambience is laid back and friendly, with a mild Christian flavour which is not a thrust down throat variety. For those who wish to partake of services however, the church often has things going on, especially during the holiday times.

The breakfast is a buffet with breads, cereals, fruit, cakes, cheese meats and salads and you can eat as much as you wish. We also went there fore lunch a couple of times and that is certainly very good value, with a salad, main course and fruit salad being only 45NIS.

Has an historical feel. Most of the volunteer staff are helpful - others don't seem to care a wit. Quiet, yet right on the edge of the Old city. Directly across from Tower of David and just inside Jaffa Gate.

I've stayed here several times. I love being in the Old City. This is the easiest hostel to get to and you don't need to lug your baggage into the narrow streets. The prices are very low. The place feels historic and the people (many of whom are volunteers) are friendly and helpful. The courtyard is an oasis from the noise of the gate traffic.

However, remember this is a faith based Christian guesthouse built in an old building. Rooms are basic. No TVs. No A/C. Bathrooms are fine, but showers are small. Breakfast is modest by Israeli standards and they tend to run out of stuff in the last hour. Dinners were cheap, but sometimes awful. Paid wireless is available.

If you expect a modern hotel with $250/night amenities, you will be disappointed. If you want a basic room, a basic breakfast, and a friendly staff in an amazing location, you will love this place.

BTW, there is a highly annoying shopkeeper just to the north of the guesthouse. I try to avoid him when coming and going...he will not take "no" for an answer.

Excellent position, just inside the Jaffa Gate. My room looked out on to the Citadel.

The room rates are very reasonable and include a good breakfast with access to tea and coffee making facilities. The rooms are spartan and not large but are adequate and good for the price. This is run by the Christian Mission to the Jews (CMJ) so you need to be aware that the conversation around you will be of a fairly fervent religious nature. It's not a problem but could make some people feel uncomfortable.

The staff were generally friendly and helpful. They are all volunteers so you need to give some leeway.

Overall clean, pleasant, peaceful, good food and central. I'd certainly stay again.
